Wild Boar hunting eh? I use to do quite a bit of that along the banks in Pawleys Island, SC. These were big russian boar though, not the little piss ant ones.
Russian Boar:
Piss ant boar:
We use to stalk them through the rice grass in the marsh. There weren't too many trees, but you could climb up what was there and watch as the wind blew over the marsh. When you noticed the grass going against the direction of the wind, you knew there was a boar there. The big russians are famous for back tracking on you though. Of course they are omnivores and aren't scared to hunt down and naw on human flesh. We used shotguns loaded slug-buckshot-slug-buckshot. The first shot with the buckshot bought you enough time to get a good shot on him with the slug. I usually took my first shot to the face so it would blind him or knock him back. The next shot was to the heart, if you had time. If not, up a tree you go and put one (or two, three, four) in him with your pistol until he drops.
I would say stand hunting you need to cator to their sense of smell. Boar are wicked good hunters, and if you have a pile of slop off from your stand, they are sure to find it. It's just a matter of time. I'm not aware of any kind of boar call, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
