[font "Times New Roman"][size 3]Sunday morning my friend Tom & I arrived at the marina at 7:30 am. Loaded up and took our snowmobiles along the road to Renegade boat ramp. The road was in good condition, bumpy in some places, but overall OK. We went straight out from the ramp 150-200 yards, if we stayed on old tracks, it was great. When we left the tracks we found the slush. 4-6” with 4” of snow on top. The ice thickness was ok, about 5" of clear hard ice, with 2" of cloudy ice on top. Not as bad as reports I read about CCE, or by Haws point. If you want isolation, this is the place. We heard snowmobiles a few times, but no other people fishing at all! From 9:30 –3:30 we iced 17 all in the slot, biggest was 20 ½”. We had several “on” for 3-4 seconds but lost them. Missed a lot of bites also. I was pleasantly surprised the bites did not slow down after 10:30 like earlier reports. In fact between 10:00 & 1:00 was the busiest time. We had anywhere from 3-7 fish on our camera screen at one time. We even had them “cruising” just under the ice. We could see down our holes 10-12’. When there were 3-4 cruisers, I raised my jig and caught one just under the ice. It was my biggest all day at 20”. Wax worms were the big hitter followed by mealworms. Tried minnows, watched them come up to the minnow and turn abruptly away several times. On the funny side, one of the cruisers actually swam up inside tom’s Ice hole halfway before seeing his ugly face[sly]and bolting for the bottom. Overall we had a very enjoyable day at the Berry!
