Sunday, 01/13/08- A great day on Lake Mead!

This is how it ended:

A school of stripers ends up on the deck of the boat.

This is how it began:

The net hits the dark water of Las Vegas Wash. We arrived at the cove on the Lake Shore Road side of the wash long before dawn. We had the place to ourselves. Working each side of the cove, about three dozen shad made it into the livewell. It took about a million tosses and over an hour to do this, after all it is January, and not many shad remain in these shallow waters.

Dawn arrived along with several boats crowding the small cove in search of shad.

We headed out to the channel near the mid-channel bouy near Gov't Wash. Wind forced us to anchor. A nice windy, cold, day.

Boat swayed about while we sent shad down over 100'.

Live bait striper on deck! The party begins.

A catfish crashes the party. This unwanted party animal is tossed back!

Johnny Law stops in to check out our party. After asking a few questions like "May I see your license and safety equipment" he leaves satisfied. I wish I had his boat.

Party ends at about noon when we ran out of live bait. What great day!

I also went out in search of moe. He never made an appearance. Did find his cousin his name was Mr. 6lb. Looks like I should have went for quantity. Mr. wildlife man also paid a visit to me. Everyone remember safety first and check your equipment before you go out. Sorry I did not see you out there BaySport. How is the new ride coming along?

Six pounder! Nice. Is your boat back on the water?

We are making progress on the Tollycraft. Starboard engine looks great. Port engine has blown head gaskets. My pard, Don is a master mechanic and has agreed to repair it for the price of parts and fishing time. Of course I'd take him anyway. He does the work and I hand him tools and clean up. What a deal! We would have her running this weekend but I'm headed for Utah for a couple of days to ice fish with my bro BLM. Anyway, we are making progress:

Don surveys the engines. Twin V-8's!

Port engine is torn down. Heads are in a machine shop being prepared for reinstallment. What fun!

Good choice, a fellw fisherman caught a nice 27'' Cutt about a week and a half ago.

Last January we had a great trip at Strawberry. Our group stayed at the Strawberry Bay Lodge & Marina for three nights. I rented a snowmobile, and borrowed everything else from my bro and friends. We fished all over the lake. Most of the cutts we caught were in the slot so it was mostly catch and release. I did manage to hook one 23'' cutt. We are going to do the same thing this year. Should be a fun time.
