I was delivering some lumber today going from ogden to park city. There were about 30 dead deer on the road. Three dead elk. Never seen that many road kills. But I did see about 100 deer out in the fields. 20-25 elk Right below echo. most of the dead deer were when you entered the canyon in wanship. It looked to me like the heard of 8 hoped out into the street when an 18 wheeler came by. Pineviewfisher

I saw the same thing just before the turnoff to Rockport. There for a short section, there was a dead deer every 5 feet or so.
I was wondering if the DWR needed to increase the deer permits in the area or if there is just getting to be so many houses in the area that the deer are being forced down.
I agree with you, I have never seen so many dead deer on the side of the road in such a small area.

[cool][#0000ff]Blame the heavy snowpack. Those poor critters gotta eat so they risk the highway for a chance to find food. Tough for them to make a living when everything is covered up.[/#0000ff]

These areas are and have been their winter range for a long time. I have seen more deer in some of the normal areas this year than in recent past. It is likely due to the heavy snows we have got. I am sure it will get worse as the snows piles up.[unsure]

dont let them fool you they can do alot of damage to an 18 wheeler

I went through there this morning as well, I slowed way down when I saw it. After you make the turn past Echo towards Evanston there are several dead elk along the road as well.

That is also true about going to evanston and the elk. that would have done some good damage to the 18 wheeler. I drive an 18 wheeler. I havent hit anything yet. So that is good

Thanks for posting the pictures, I sure hope the deer can make it through the winter but as deep as the snow is in that last picture, I would say there will be a lot of dead deer before this winter is over[unsure]. WH2
