[black][/black]
[black]Once the three guys get to their room the manager decides the three guys over paid. So he gives the Bell Boy five $1 bills to go and give back to the three guys. On the way to the room the bell boy realized he could not split the $5 evenly between 3 people. So he decides to keep $2 for himself and then give each of the three guys $1.[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]So if you take the $10 the three guys originally payed for the room and subract the $1 the BellBoy returned to them they now have spent $9 a piece. So if you now take the $9 per person and times that by 3 individuals you come up with $27, then add the two dollars the Bell Boy kept you have $29. What happened to the last dollar?[/black]

thats an old one . . .

Be careful about accepting what you are told! The flaw is in the phrase "then add the two dollars the Bell Boy kep." This should not be added; it should be subtracted, since the $2 the bellboy got is part of the $27 dollars the three men spent altogether. If you subtract the $2 from the $27 you get the $25 that goes into the till.

There is no missing dollar. If you divide the $25 they actually ended up paying for the room, that means each person paid $8.33, when they think they paid $9. If you take the $.66 that is not accounted for from each person, it adds up to roughly $2...That's what the bell boy kept...So now the hotel has $25, the bellboy has $2, and each man got $1 back. Add that up and you get $30.
