[size 1]Bear Lake Report for Friday, January 18, 2008. The cisco run has begun at Bear Lake as cisco were seen swimming in small schools along Cisco Beach this morning and a few people were able to dip their limits. The run will ramp up during the next week and will go through the weekend of January 26th. There were no cisco sighted off the Bear Lake State Park marina. The weather was calm today and approximately 50% of the lake is covered with a thin layer of ice. If the winds stay clam and the weather stays cold the lake may freeze, however, if the wind comes up it could blow ice sheets over to Cisco Beach make dip netting very difficult if not impossible. As of today, you can still launch boats at Cisco Beach but the state park has removed the dock which can make launching more difficult. Be careful of moving sheets of ice and ice chunks when boating. The west side of the lake is almost entirely skimmed over with ice including the area around the rockpile. There is no safe ice on the lake at this time. We will continue daily monitoring for cisco and will update the Bear Lake office answering machine daily. PLEASE ONLY CALL AFTER 4:00PM 435-946-8501 Monday-Friday. Fishing reports for other areas of the lake are not possbile since ice is preventing access to the lake.

What this means is that either a Utah or Idaho license holder can fish on either side of the lake. In addition if an angler also has purchased a second pole permit (two pole permit) then you can fish with two poles on either side of the state line too.
For those interested the GPS coordinates for the new rockpiles using WGS84 datum going from south to north are:
41 degrees 58.097 minutes;
111 degrees 23.682 minutes;
