Ran up to Scofield today looking for one of those big rainbows some of you have sported this year. Fished down by the dam and started in 11 feet of water. First bite came fast. Unfortunately I snapped the line on the hook set. Didn't have another bite for over an hour. I usually would have moved. But the ice was thicker then the spiral on my hand auger! Then I started getting lots of little bites on the bottom. Pulled up my first fish of the day soon after. A whole 4-5 inch minnow, no joke. There was another group out there, and when they left a little after noon I moved into their holes. The water depth was 15 feet deep with fish top to bottom. Landed a few fish real quick, but no size to them. I then started watching my jig down the hole and watched the fish attack it. I tried to only set the hook on the bigger ones. Finally around 3pm I brought up a 15 inch rainbow and broke the hook when taking it out of its mouth. I decided that was going to be the biggest for the day and started tying on a new jig to try for 30 minutes then head home. As I was clipping the line on my new jig I saw my other pole was getting a nibble. I just figured it was one of the little tigers nipping at it since it was only 4 feet below the ice. But then I saw that the fish was hooked. So I looked down the hole to make sure it wasn't big enough to pull my pole in. Then saw the biggest fish of the day, and it had my hook in its mouth! HOOKSET then it dove down to the bottom. After a couple dives I pulled him up on the ice. Finally the fish I had been looking for. 20.5 inches and 4lbs 3oz

Sorry about the long story. Here are some pics.

Yeah I like to have visuals when I read other posts. Unfortunatly I fish alone a lot. So I have to bring it home and let the my wife snap a few pics of me in the kitchen. Not as cool as out on the ice, but at least I have proof. Hard to make a fishing story grow when you have a pic to back it up.[sly]

Nice fish, Thanks for the report I have been looking for a good scofield report for a while, not too thrilled about the ice thickness either.... any slush? how deep is the snow out there??
There was no slush there when I was there. And only a few inches of snow on the ice. Maybe 1-2 feet around the lake, depending on the drifts. For this time of year, I thought it was good snow conditions.

Even as thick as the ice was. It will get a lot thicker over the next month![pirate]
