Hey everybody I have doing something a little different this year. Usually I am ice fishing quite a bit and fly fishing about the same but this winter has been almost All fly fishing. I have been hitting area rivers very hard and have had a wonderful time. In all my trips ( about three times a week) I have seen one other angler. Its been awesome with several 20 and even 25 fish days. The fish quality has been great as well. A lot of 17-18 inch fish and two over 20" with one of those being 26 inches (taped him). All in all wonderful fishing, although it has been hard at times to avoid the slush-ice. Have been using midges, small caddis imitations, san juans, mayfly nymphs, but the most productive fly has been a very small stonefly nymph.

I drove by the South Fork at Lorenzo yesterday and it was mostly frozen with too much ice floating down the river to even make fishing possible. It is going to eventually warm up enough to get ride of enough ice to make river fishing possible in more than just a few places. I'm going to try to get out and fish some rivers in the next few weeks.

I know I have had the same problem with the South fork. I have only been able to fish it once in all the times I have gone. I will post some pictures of those flies, yesterday my camera wasn't working, but as soon as I get them Ill post them up.

Hey Everet14. Great fish!! Thank for the info. What area are you fishing? I have fished the South Fork of the Boise a few times this year and other than catching more White fish than trout I have been doing well also. It would be great to have as much time to get out as you do.

I am fishing the South Fork and the Henry's Fork, its been an awesome year so far.

Good Job Everett. I ice fish most of the winter because it is possible with my little boys. I will have to try to get out to the rivers more often it looks fun and I love learning new times of fishing.

I understand, thats one thing about fly fishing, its not a real social experience. It is so fun to fish the rivers during the winter, its like a totally different river, everything is different.
