I decided the drive to bear lake wasn't going to be fun today with all the snow so i headed up to Glendale for my 1st time. I got to the access about 6:15 and first headed a few hundred yards along the shore. I fished in about 15 ft. of water and iced only one perch. I headed back towards the access and went out towards the middle. I drilled in 43 ft. and instantly started markin fish on the finder. I ended up icing a whole mess...about 25 Crappie, some were real nice about 10-11". I used a small swedish pimple with a mealworm and about 10" below i had a rat finkee with a night crawler...most my Crappie came on the crawler. I pulled up a couple more small perch and called it a day about 12:30 to head back for the SuperBowl... what a game!!
Does anybody fish Glendale for trout? I was hoping to get into some trout but i'm not really sure where to start looking for them up there... any advice?

I fish Glendale often during the summer months (I dont ice fish) and have noticed that it all depends on water level if you want to get into the trout. Of course, they are usually deeper, but when the water is up they do go for some of the structure around the shore. Was it still really low today? You said you were in 43 feet, so I would imagine that the water (ice) level has gone up since I was last there in late September!!! Thanks for the post. Cant wait for ice off.

I fish Glendale a lot. When I was up there in November I caught a lot of bass on the west end of the lake down by the dam. I don't know where you were fishing. How were the edges? Also one other question did you have on light line when you were catching the crappie?

Thanks,

I was straight out from the sportmans access parking lot about 2/3 across i'd say. Yes... i was fishing 6 lb line with a 3lb cold weather leader. They were hitting really soft most of the time but i did get a few aggresive bites. How deep were you fishing for the bass? I've only ever caught 2 bass through the ice both were at Mantua.

The bass were at all depths. I caught two out in the middle and two on the west end. The ones on the west end were in shallow water but the ones out in the middle were down deeper. I don't know how deep I was but I was in deeper water. How were the edges to get on to?

The edges weren't too bad really my dog busted through in about 6" of water but i took a big step and it was good enough to hold me it did creak a little though. Is there an access further up the lake or is the first one you come to the only one?

I've caught both large perch and large crappie out of there on bass rigs. It really is a good panfish reservoir.

Fished Glendale today, 2 other groups on the ice and it was very slow. A few very small perch, no crappie by any one but he bass were biting. 17 1/2" large mouth 4.5 lbs, couldnt put back as it was on bottom and when i got on top, lungs and eyes had poped. I was really disappointed there but, it will be a good feed.

Be very very careful on edges. About 15+ feet of soft edge getting onto the ice and then there is about 6 inches of snow on top of ice and 4-6 inches of sluch. Probably 8-10 inches of slush/snow in many places and then the ice when i drilled is about 10 inches. Lots of water on top of ice when you go through the ice. I dont know if its gonna freeze again or not. Its actually getting dangerous enough on edges that not sure Ill fish it again.

If you do, be careful and good luck.

Did ya have to use a plank to get on the ice or waders? Nice job on the bass it's always a bummer when their lungs bulge...i was amazed the last one i caught there didn't have any problems. Ya need to get pics up of big 'ol bass like that!! How deep were you fishing?

Didnt use a plank in mornig but sure wish i had one in afternoon when i left. One group had a plank but what you can carry isnt long enough to cover all the soft edge that there is now. Not saying that you cant get on or off, but watch it cuz it is really soft and water is raising quick and moving under the snow on the edge. I wish i had the camera when i went, Ill take it next time but it probably will be my last one that size through the ice. Was fishing off bottom in about 35-40 feet. Worked from one side to the other.
