Hello folks… The friends and I headed for Yuba this morning. We had planned to go to the Gorge, but the State of WY kept closing our route…. We arrived at Painted Rocks around 7:15, a bit cold but not too bad. We headed out by 4 wheeler west past the island anchoring toward the rocks just after the cliffs. We were all set up and dropped our lines about 7:40 or so… by 10am I had limited out, and by 10:20am the other two gents were done as well.

I would love to tell you some great combo that was working, but they were biting anything and everything…. I fished a 2.5” pink tube jig with an eyeball attached… The secret seemed to be getting the jig bouncing on the bottom… The finder would light up as they came off with the jig, following closely. We took 5 12”ers and most the rest in the 9 to 10 range… only one or two fingerlings…The friendly neighborhood Yuba biologist checked our catch in the parking lot.

The snow was not bad, no slush to speak of... 4 wheel was needed for sure... with two large guys on my wheeler (about 550lbs combined) we had all the traction we needed. [Wink]

The Perch tasted mighty good and I am ready to go out again… Maybe the weather gods will Smile and I can make it to the gorge in the next couple weeks.

How thick was the ice?

8-12" (depending) We drilled 6 holes total, in about 34 ft of water.... It was plenty sturdy.

Man sure seems like the bite happens in the morning! Glad to see you guys got your limits. Guess it pays to have a 4 wheeler on the ice. That perch looks yummy is that any special recipe ?

I was just happy the bite happened while I was around [Wink]

The recipe isn't special, just some flour and spices (garlic, onion, pepper, italian seasoning, salt) shake em and then pan fry with just a touch of oil...

They were quite good

Interesting.......specifically what type of "italian seasoning?" That does look good. lol.

By your pictures it looks like you was over by the rocks and painted rocks north of the Iland is that right...

Yep, just west and north of the island... we were by our lonesome out there [Smile] It was a great day!

THe italian seasoning I use is the premix in the spice section... it is just labled Italian Seasoning... I am too lazy to make my own [Wink]

Perch are a great eating fish... my kids love it, seems like it is gone in a flash.

We went down there yesterday also. Two of us had no problem hitting our limit. Two different rigs and both produced fish (2.5" tube jig in white or green with meal worm or perch eyes). We were out by the island. Air temp was great the wind cooled things down however.
