THE Northumbrian Open Shore competition organised by Bedlington Station Sea Angling Club was held recently.

With 350 anglers taking part, it was deemed a huge success and there was a good turn out of ladies and juniors.

110 weighed in 350lb, most of which were flat fish from Warkworth and Druridge beach, but the best bag of the day was three cod for 14lb 3oz, caught by Andrew Stanton that won him £1,000 for the heaviest bag.

He also had the heaviest fish at 10lb 4oz winning £500, the Super Pool winning £188, and won the team fishing with P Buddles £150, winning a total of £1,833.

The second heaviest bag<br />
went to P Peacock who won £350 with ten flat fish at 10lb 1oz.

There were 84 other prizes so most of the people that caught a fish won something.

The club also gave every junior that came back to the weigh in a goody bag of line sinkers and a cap.

Organisers would like to thank their sponsors Greys of Alnwick, Paul Dawson of Forge Leisure, Kevin Lee Sendrig Construction and John Laidler Sports &amp; Leisure as without there help they would not have been able to make the day such a huge success.

The club are hoping that over next few years for the competition to become one of the largest in the country and as it grows it will bring anglers from outside the area which the club believe can only be a good thing for local business.

Next season's event is on October 19.
