[black]If you are new to putting line on your reels as you imply, it might be better to have a tackle shop (Cabelas, Bass Pro Shop, Sportsmans Warehouse, etc.) do it for you. It can be a tricky and frustrating operation for the new angler. In most cases, they will only charge you the cost of the line to do that.[/black]

closed face reels are a pain in the butt. Don't bother just take it some where. Now the Open face reels are your best friend if you want to strip the line and put all new on each time you catch a big fish. At least that is what I do. Just take the spool off the reel and just unwind it and when you get to the knot cut it and throw away your old fishing line in the garbage can not in the water. Tie a knot on the spool and re-assemble the reel and run the line under the bale (metal wire that wraps line in when you are winding the reel) hold the line to the pole tight enough to keep the line tight but loose enough that the line will wind into the pole without breaking the line. Just keep winding until you think you have enough on there or you have reached max capacity according to factory specs. Not really a challenge at all if you just take your time. If it is a closed face reel it is a pain in the butt. It can be done though. For this strip all the old line out take off the cover and then take off the nut off that holds the round disc that pulls the line in. strip the line off the spool. Tie new line onto spool after you have run it through the cover re-install disc and nut and put the cover on and wind until you are satisfied with how much line you have put on. Remember closed face reels are a pain in the butt and I recommend not using them at all. If you do get a store to do it for you. Trust me it is a pain in the butt. It is why I switched to an open face reel. The store even had trouble getting new line on my closed face reel it took them almost 30+ minutes! Get an open face reel.
