Theres good news and bad news! Bad news is the ice is still pretty thick around the edges. Also there is a ton of garbage everywhere even on the ice.The good news is that there are spots that are fishable by the :L" and the bay south of the dike.Thats the spot i usually target first for kitties. Also i noticed a lot of water coming into the lake .The river is almost to the top. Wish i would have brought my toon to give it a try in that bay. [Image: fish-on.gif]

[cool][#0000ff]Thanks for the intel. That bay is probably still to shallow for kitties in the cold water. They usually do not go in there until late April or early may. My past records show most cats will be in at least 5-6 feet of water until it gets about 55 degrees. But, during a warm spell, when the sun is warming the shallows, they will move in to soak up some rays. The mud cats really move in shallow first. I have seen them in only a few inches of water not long after ice out.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Last year that shallow bay was full of carp for a week or two after it opened up. Also a few white bass. But no cats until we got out into deeper water.[/#0000ff]

i fished there today on my way back from yuba and the ice is good around the bay. but in one spot its 20' out. me and a freind fished there for a while and i snagged one carp. we walked all of the springs and not allot of open water to speak of. we also fished off of the dock but werent there very long thanks to that lovely 50 mile an hour wind storm.... one more week and well see some open water there just like yuba.
