I've been invited to float part of the Salmon by Chalis with my toon. Not sure exactically where but was told it would be be around a bridge and be flat water.
I am not sure what to use as far as tackle. I have a 10w fly rod and sink tip line, some egg sucking leeches, eggs and some other patterns.
If I use my spinning rod what should I use? The only steelhead fishing I have done was bouncing a corky up by Riggins.
I will probably bring both. any suggestions[crazy]

Hey Michael,
I'm heading up there on saturday. This will be my first time as well there. I've only ever caught them on the clearwater. but from what I understand if you are using your fly rod, glo bugs are the way to go. That's what I'll be using. I also plan on bouncing corkies like you said, and I've also heard that back trolling crank baits just below a run or at the top of a hole can be really good.
But anyway, good luck, maybe I'll se you out there.

Sounds like fun! I won't be there till April so you can find out what works and where to go[

] I'm not sure of the name of the bridge but it may be called Junction Bridge.
Have a great trip and tell us all about it[

Try drifting roe beind a small corkie, or throwing a size 3 or 4 blue fox spinner (purple works great thsi tiem of year).
I'd try to bug rod as well, use big heavy bunny leeches (purple or cerise) or larger heavy marabou patterns.

JUNCTION BRIDGE TO PENNAL GULCH TO WATTS BRIDGE I am trying to find some info about these 2 areas to float anyone out there with any info or experience concerning these floats?

I've floated in a drift boat up there from just below Challis (Sportsman's access) down about 8 hours (I have no idea where we were, but we floated under some bridges). We caught fish. The water was fairly low and very clear, and there was a lot of pressure. It was in April however.
We didn't experience any water that I would call problematic. We did best in the side channels -vs- the main flow.

Thanks Mojo1. Lots of pressure[crazy] I wonder how many other first timers on a pontoon there'll be there?

Well, three of us floated the river from Salmon on saturday. We caught all of our fish on glow bugs. we caught plenty of fish, but only landed one steelhead. the rest were whitefish, rainbow and bull trout, suckers, and one pikeminnow (squawfish).
We talked to a local guy there and he said that due to when the ice off was, he thinks the bulk of the fish will be arriving next week. so apparently we just missed the big surge.
