as you know the new fishing year is under way , and with each and every year comes the dredded regulation changes . some states have very few , others have volumes of changes . wether it's fishing bounderys to length of fish or whatever in between , take the time to review these changes . it may save you fines and loss of priviliges ( some states , your rights ) and the loss of your equipment .

and for a moment while viewing the " new changes " contemplate why these changes were put into effect , if you are still stumped for a reasom , contact your d.n.r. head office , question there reasons for the changes , go as far as to demand a responce from them that adequatly answers your questions . they work for you ! they have to give an answer ! ask who proposed the changes , there reasons for the changes , and who sponsored the changes . becoming more involved in your sport wil make you a better all around sportsman . knowing the who's and why's of these changes will give you the uper edge when confronting new " sponsored bills " that benifit certin orginisations that try to impose there doctrins on the rest of the states citicens .

belive it or not , a lot of your rules and regulations come from groups that want to see there club rules as a state wide law . some are good , some are bad . what i concider bad ones are the ones that regulate the size limit to such an excess that only " trophy sizes "are able to be taken or have to be released .

i may be old school , but i belive once a fish has reached it's eating size , well it's days are numbered from that point on , trophey or not .

if you have some new rule changes you would like to discuss , put them down and let's see where everyone stands on the issues .

Hi again lonehunter,

I only wish that all scientific reports relating to sportfishing's impact on a fishery be scanned by using the common sense factor. Honestly, some of the organizations must have a rock solid belief that nobody, who actually fishes, is really going to read these reports. I scanned enough bad reports to at least have an opinion.

It's as if an interest group paid a politician X amount to fund a study and recommending he he he you-know-whos buddies to do the study and get the results needed or additional greasing of the wheel.

PS: These reports are so long and involved that it is truley a hugh project to wade through all the ......... I don't have the patience. Guilty as Charged.

I like the idea of the slot harvesting. I C&R but I don't care what others do as long as it is ethical and legal. I'm pretty sure that these slots, done properly, vary by species, location, numbers of stock cycle and should be applied only to specific watersheds, lakes, rivers, etc.

hi ron ! here in michigan we have a group called michigan united concervation clubs (mucc) stronglry tied to the d.n.r. . they have a t.v. show sponsored by the d.n.r. . these guys hunt primarily on private lands and sports clubs . very few of there shows are from public land . even the fishing shows are from private lakes and charter boats .

well guess who the d.n.r. chooses to represent the intrests of john q. public ? the board members of this orginasation , thats who .

in our hunting of deer , the d.n.r. gets a whole lot of money from out of staters , how do we get more out of state hunters ? more racks ! so have the d.n.r.'s bedfellows indorse a antler limit ( 4 points or better on one side ) on there studys and then make it law .

well us non afiliated with the dnr hunters , you know the average sportsman , well a rack is cool , but we hunt for the meat ! we dont hunt " private ranches or farms , we hunt the state land . there not cornfed thruout the year , trophy racks are rare in the wilds . 8 points are not common in the woods . 4 to 6 points are the average .

i can see them doing this to our fishing soon as well , adopting the same rules and regulations that canada has to bring in the u.s. fisherman . no trophy fish are kept , they have to be released .

so in short , let the hunter or fisherman who does his sport to fill his plate go hungry so that the d.n.r. can line there pockets and support there " research groups"

as a tuber , you can travel the ocean , yet on some paid lakes you have to stay inside the swimming buoys , why ? it sounds crasy to me ! who made the rule about that , and why ?

as a citisen , i have the right and the responsibility to question and protest these laws i feel are unjust . as a sheep i will just be led to the slaughter of my rights and priviliges .

thanks ron , for letting me jump up on my soap-box again ! LOL
