Anyone planning to hit the Lincoln Beach area on saturday[Wink]? I will be there sooner or later[sly]. With the ice starting to come off pretty good, just may have some luck[Image: fish-on.gif]. Any thoughts or ideas per the current conditions? I know I will probably hit the "L", and work from there.

[cool][#0000ff]I don't know how long it has been since you checked out the "L" area. All of the "gates" in the fences are closed and there are no trespassing signs up all over the place. You can't drive down to the lake edge.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]However, you can park in the pullout area and walk through a hole in the fence to get down to the L. But, if you have more than a light tube, it is a trek to the water. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]About the only place with open water and doable launching is the shallow bay just south of the dikes of the boat channel. The open water does not go very far out. Not likely to be much in there, but you never know. Maybe the fish are as anxious as we are.[/#0000ff]

I was headed torwards I-15 coming from IMFT and could see the West mountains reflecting off the open water around Lindon. Won't be long now...I'll just have to hurry up and wait for warm temps.

How do you get to Lincoln Beach? Also, how goes Sandy Beach for spring walleye? I've caught whites and cats there in the river heading into Sandy Beach but have never pulled a walleye out of there.

[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]Looks like you already have the directions. Here is a PDF file with a hand-drawn map to help.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Walleyes are like gold...where you find them. If they are hunting for food, you fish where the forage species are. If they are staging to spawn, then you look for them in the rivers or along stretches of wave washed rocks. Not much of the latter in Utah Lake. Some of the rock dikes see nighttime walleye spawning. Also along some rocky shelves at Lincoln Beach. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]At this time of year there can be stray walleyes anywhere, restless and moving to find other walleyes before the spawn. They are also feeding prior to spawning. Some folks do well by still fishing with minnows or cut white bass meat on a corky rig. I like to drag a whole minnow around behind my float tube on one rod while casting plastics with another. (2 pole permit)[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]No answer as to why you do or don't catch walleyes at one place or another. When they are there, you have a better shot at them. But, just finding them is no guarantee. Maybe with whites and cats, but not with the wascally wallies.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Chances are that almost anywhere you fish there will be walleyes within casting range. But, if they are inactive or preoccupied with spawning, they are mighty tough to get to open their mouths.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Sorry about the "non answer answer".[/#0000ff]

There is a large area of open water on the west side south end towards Goshen straight west of LB - don't know if it is even acessable\unposted or BLM land there - but is a big area - maybe 1/4 to 1/2 mile of shoreline is fishable/floattubeable [cool] Drove by it today.

[cool][#0000ff]The entire shoreline, between Lincoln Beach boat ramp and Goshen, is now posted...NO TRESPASSING. Used to be a lot of good spots along there both for shore fishing and for launching tubes and small boats.[/#0000ff]

About two thirds of the way around between Lincoln beach and Goshen there are some farm buildings on the west side of the road. From there south there is only one small piece of shore that is posted just before the Goshen bay WMA. There are a few places where people launch small boats to fish and duck hunt, including a graveled spot in the WMA.

No worries, thanks for the map.
