I was the only crazy one out fishing. (Even with the thermals it was quite cold out there) No tracks in the snow going down to the river either.

I went over to the hole just north of the falls that produced all the salmon this past fall. Fished flies, spawn and a few spinners.....Nothing.... I moved futher down the river to the mouth and still nothing.... There are a few spots where you can cross the river on some walkways and bridges......I looked and looked but didn't see any fish either.

It is still quite cold up there and there was plenty of ice if you wanted to fish the bay.

I did talk to an old guy that stopped to see how I was doing and he said they were taking good numbers of walleyes about 200 yards straight out from the pier marker. (You can't miss it because there are 8 shanny's right there). He said that there have been a few people fishing the river but catch is extremely slow to non-exsitant.

From MI DNR fishing report.....

"Bear River - In Petoskey, has absolutely fantastic ice fishing for steelhead. Fish are being caught near the mouth between the pier and the docks using wigglers and small spawn bags. Limit catches are common."

Huh? I fished that EXACT area for over 2 hours without one strike. Fished flies, spawn and spinners. Did not see one fish and did not see any tracks in the snow from other anglers going down to the river either.

Where is the DNR coming up with this stuff? Do the mayors in these areas call in with wild fishing reports just to get people in their towns to spend money? I wonder .............

I asked a C.O. about this and he said they gather the info from where ever they can get it .
baitstores , word of mouth , internet sites .
Some guys (internet sites ) will provide false info to keep people from fishing the rivers that are active[mad] .
I've been to a few bait and tackle stores that will do the same thing (false info )to sell more stuff [mad].

That's why I like the real reports from real fishermen . Our problem is everyone wants real reports but won't man-up to posting their fishing reports [unsure].

All I can say is it's their loss , I think our site is the only one that rewards fishing report posters with free fishing gear and contests [cool].

Sounds like a comercial dosen't it ?
