hey, I'll probably get booed right off this web site, but the thought of using fozen gold fish, you know the little feeder kind. You know something with more color. I know that's what they use to feed the fish at cabelas. It's probably not leagal anyway but i was just curious if anyone has thought about it or knows what the "rule" for using minnows is. like which species are ok and which ones aren't. I don't want to sound like some retarded fisherman but I was just curious so I thought that I would throw it out there.

I don't know why you would think this post would get you booted. [crazy] I've used goldfish in several waters (though it was in KS). you just have to be cautious about where. As I understand it, you're not allowed to introduce new species to the ecosystem so goldfish have to be there already. If the goldfish are dead, then there isn't any problem with using them anywhere.

Really? I dont' know why I felt dumb asking. Anyway, did you have any luck with the little suckers? I'm sure they would work. If anything it would be funny telling fish stories about how you killed em using a gold fish. and they're dirt cheap.

Legal on the Colorado River.

Reading the new rules on pages 26 and 27 of the current Fishing Guide it appears that it would be illegal to use dead gold fish for bait in Utah, unless you can find some that are, "Commerically prepared and chemically treated". I used them a few years ago (they were legal as bait before 2008) and didn't have any luck on them. I tried them because a friend of mine uses them for bait in the ocean and said that they work great there.

Thanks for the info, yea I read that part too, but wasn't too sur how it read. That makes sense to me now though, that's ok you can't beat a big fat worm anyway i dont care what they say! (unless it's a lucky craft pointer minnow those things rock my world no matter where i use them i catch fish.)

Yeah. Just goes to show ya how different states can be. I wouldn't have guessed that dead goldfish would be a problem anywhere in the US, since it's just fish meat. Good to know though. I've used them live for flathead cats & bass in the midwest and they do a great job when the conditions are right.
