Found some open water on the bear river and thousht i'd try my new jet drive powered boat out. Cold 32 degree water so i didn't plan on catching much. Caught a few and missed a few.

How big is you boat and motor? A friend wants to get out somewhere close and try out his jet drive. Also where did you find this open water? Way to go on catching some fish, looks like a good sized carp. WH2

it is an 17'5 flat bottom bass boat with 40hp outboard jet, plenty of water even for a prop motor, i ran a propped motor breaking through ice (in december) to do some duck hunting and the water was about 3 feet lower than it is now and had no problem.

Is there a ramp to launch from? I need to check my boat out before i take it down to Powell. The water isn't going to get iced off anywhere close from the looks of the weather and the thickness of the ice. Hard to believe 4 years ago we were trolling for trout in East Canyon by now.

yeah there is a ramp but it has about 1' of mud on it, if your boat has any size to it i wouldn't reccomend putting it in there plus the approach still has a foot of snow you have to push through as well.
there is quite a bit more snow up there. it is a muddy nasty mess. If you boat is a prop drive you know they have hookups that just connect your hose to so you can run your motor out of water.

Thanks. It is a jet boat. I have to have a reasonable ramp. That sled is perfect for small rivers. Up on the snake you can tilt the motor and dump the moss and get right after it. With out the stomp grate I have to pull up and go wading to clear the moss. Mojo 1 has a sled and catches dozens of sturgeon on the Snake in Idaho. Anyway I trust my boat well enough to take it down there and fire it up and go. I dont have the dry run kit but I can crank it enough to check the oil filter and the fuel pump will fill the water separator. But you know how it is. Powell is a big place a ways away and I hate bad suprises. If you can fight the bugs I bet that duck refuge has some really primo cat fish.

Hey Dan, that boat looks just like yours was that picture taken where you bought it?

It was virgin.

Take it down to Utah Lake. There is plenty of open water around Lindon to run around for a while.
