Hello Fishing Nut,

Once you pull out of the Marina go left or North about 5 to 7 miles to Stewarts point. Anchor in 50 to 90 feet of water and chum cut anchovies. You should do well. I have only fished this area at night. do not know how the day fishing is. Also further up is Ann marguret beach same method applies.

GPS for Stewarts Point: 36*23.07' Latitude north
114*24.68' Longitude West

Stewart point/Bay will be on your left. People fish of the shore there alot. Be VERY CAREFUL on the water due to the low water levels. The dept. of Wildlife can not keep up with marking all the new reefs. they pay more attention to the lower end of the lake. Give us a report and let us know how you do.

Good Luck[Smile]

Wecome to the board! Camping at Lake Mead! Sounds like you have a great trip planned. I only fish the lower basin, however, if I was to head up that way this time of year the main focus would be chum at anchor, till they come, and fish with cut bait. Anchovy is most common, sardine, squid, and shrimp sometimes work well. Don't forget a few swimbaits, you never know.

Hope you have a successful trip. Please post a report just in case some of us lower basin guys every travel up that way.

Thanks guys! Watching that Diesel climb in price makes a person dizzy!!!
We are at 3.76 which will cost me about $400 in roundtrip from Ogden, UT.

Boat does OK as it does OK on gas.

Baysport, I see you go to Strawberry every year!
Was up there weekend before last and done pretty well but can't hardly wait for the ice to come off.

Shoo......it would cost you that much for a six hour guide boat, so your still getting a bargain by hauling your boat. [Wink]

Yeah, I head north to Strawberry in the winter. A great time until you dump a sled. Now thats how a fishing trip gets expensive! Oh well, you got to pay to play.

We went out on 4 wheelers dragging the sled/tent/etc. and almost did not get them back in.
Took 15 mins to get out to our spot and 2.5 hours back in.
Will have to get snowmobiles if I keep going up there in the winter. I was pretty resigned to spend the night out there in my tent until it froze up in the AM but a storm was coming in and we were worried it would only get worse.
That slush under the snow layers is pretty tricky.
How did you dump your sled??
Have you ever been up there in May/June?
Saw pics of your new boat a little while back, how is it coming along?

Rookie mistake. Crossing the lake several miles from the lodge. We were moving fast to stay on top of the slush, you know, as long as you don't stop on the soft stuff your all right. When the sled goes from high rpms and low traction of the slush monster to the great traction of the hard deck it can end up sliding sideways fast, tipping over, or rolling over. I guess I did'nt recognize where the slush monster ended and the hard deck began, maybe I was going to fast, and I certainly did not compensate for the change of direction the sled made. Anyway, ended up tipping the sled over and striking the ice, separating my left shoulder. Good thing I was wearing a helmet!
4 wheelers on the ice? You love adventure more than I!

Fired the port engine last weekend after rebuilding it. First time it has ran in three years. It sounded great, however, the intake manifold leaked so a new gasket next weekend. Maybe we will get it right this time! I can only work on it one day a week right now so progress is slow but steady. Hope to have it cruising the lake by mid April.

Yeah, thinking a little get together would be nice. Got to get it running first. We'll see. Can fish four off the stern easy and carry a ton of gear. Can even strap a kayak to the fore deck. It will make a great bait fishing boat. The heck with bringing beer, bring gasoline, this baby has twin V-8 engines.

Fish the islands all around Echo. May be too soon for topwater but a white crank bait and a green tube should get you bass (Both Kinds) and stripers. Smallies may be moving up and active

good luck

Well got back last Tueday. Great time with good weather except for Sunday was quite windy. Fishing was slow and appeared so for everyone around. Finally caught one striper, 2lber, up towards overton marina on Monday drifting with an anchovie tipped with a squid as one of the guys told me to do. Had a few more hits too but could not hook em. Fished in about 35 feet of water. People who are staying and fishing there (snowbirds) said that they were doing better at 50' to 60' slow trolling 1.0 mph or less in 70 to 100' of water. Only brought medium tackle and left trolling poles and leaded line home so that was out. Surface water temps varied from 47 to 55 degrees which if I understand is still a little cold.

Can't wait to come again. September probably.

Ice is starting to come off up here so it going to be cats, wipers, walleyes, lmbs, trout, crappie, and tiger muskie time.

Sounds like a fun trip! Thanks for the report.

Belated welcome to the Board. I highly recommend the campgrounds at Temple Bar (on the AZ side of Mead). I have camped there in tents on numerous occasions. Very clean and private, and easily accessible. The marina, bait shop and restaurant, are only a couple hundred yards away so that's very convenient as well. Fishing is also excellent near and around the Temple Bar Marina. Hope the info helps.

Best regards,

Paul
