Those White Bass are good looking fish. Are there any waters that contain them north of Salt Lake? I live in Brigham and would like to go after some? Also, are they any good eating?

White bass are great eating. Very light, flakey white meat. Similar to walleye or perch. I don't think there is anyplace in Utah besides Utah Lake that has very significant numbers of white bass.

[#0000ff]No white bass north of the Jordan River in Salt Lake, but Willard Bay has lots of their big hybrid brothers...the WIPERS. They are some of the hardest fighting fish you can hook, and plenty good on the table.[/#0000ff]

There are some in Holmes Creek in Layton, but there is no swimming, tubing, or boating there. I don't know the recent ice conditions, but someone might chime in. Check DWR's community fishing page for directions.
Thats a Wiper there in my pic, and they taste just about the same as the whites, just get bigger and they fight like crazy!

Sorry but I have to disagree.......haha. Just my personal opinion. But wipers are veeeeerrrrry fun to catch. But they are waaaaaaaaay fishier tasting than white bass. One good way to cure that is to completely remove the red muscle tissue in the fillet. I mean it! For me all of the red tissue has to go. LOL.
Hi Nathan,
The other guys that replied pretty much covered anything I would have to add. But, if you're looking for a fight, its hard to beat Willard Bay wipers. They are brutal! They can be real hit or miss at times, but when they get going, they'll destroy every lure in your tackle box, and make your arms sore in the process. Once the water temp gets to about 55 degrees, they'll start getting active. Save yourself a drive to Utah Lake, and hit Willard instead. HTH, Fred K.

Thanks for the info. When the wipers get going at willard, I am going to ask one of you guys to show me how it is done there for them.
