Hey Guys!
Hows it going? I am new to your forum been lurking for a little while but I wanted to reply to this and say I was up there this past weekend and the lake is still completely frozen about 15 feet maybe? from full. It is just starting to recede.
Below the dam all I could catch was sucker and whitefish. I used worms, marshmellows, powerbaits (of all sorts), spinners and eggs. I spent about 8 hrs or so up there. The weather was nice once the sun came out and around the bank from the dam the current and blow from the spouts? were not a factor. I wish I could have done better truth is I have the fishin bug bad this year and intend to capitalize!
If you guys have any advice on great places or techniques please HELP. This would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Fish
First question: do you have a boat? If so, go back to last summer and see the many posts from Riverrunner16, Lunddude, and myself (Kodiak) about kokanee fishing in Lucky Peak and Anderson Ranch. Lucky Peak and Arrowrock can be good in the summer for kokanee and trout, with the kokanee going up to 18". Anderson is great one year, and slow the next. If you don't have a boat, there will be many opportunities later on when the ice leaves locations like Little Camas, Horsethief, Cascade, etc. But, a boat and downriggers gives you many more options, such as Payette Lake and Stanley Lake for big macinaw trout, with 30#ers a possibility in P.L. (Our last laker in Payette L. was a 33 pounder! Good fishing, and keep watching this site, the F. and G. fishing reports online, and Fish 'n' Hunt reports. Mike

Thanks Mike! I do not have a boat yet I was gonna try and start out with a float tube or the like for financial reasons right now. I really hope to pull a boat off before the end of the season this year though.
Where would you suggest a guy go at this time of year when the ice is like it is?

You don't have to go far from Boise; in fact, you can stay in the cilty limits! Area ponds, either those in Boise or Wilson Ponds in Nampa, are regularly stocked. The Boise River was stocked two weeks ago, and can be good for both trout and whitefish. Lucky Peak is coming up 1 1/2 feet a day, and the fishing is terrible. C.J. Strike has come on recently, I have heard, for trout off the bank. Use the usual, a bit of worm and 'mallows. It's an early morning bite often. Farther away, the Oster Lakes, part. #1, is supposed to be producing some trout. If you are new to Boise, it is a nice drive this time of year. Visit the National hatchery, and explore the 1000 Springs. Mike
