I would like to hire a day guide to fish Flaming Gorge this year for lake trout. This would be a first for me so I'm wondering if anyone could make any recomendations for a guide?

If you want to jig fish with the rod in your hand, I'm going to have a few more open dates VERY soon. Email me from my website, below. There's also some guys on here who can tell you about my trips first-hand as well, both good and bad. Its getting tougher every year, but we still get 'em most days.

I have fished with Conquest Expeditions for the last few years. Kyle Edwards is the guide and he does an outstanding job. He will give you information about the lake and the fish without holding back. He is just a truly nice guy that wants to make sure your trip is a success. I have signed up with him again this year. I usually go with him for Kokanee but he does outstanding on the Lakers also. He does not jig in the spring for the Lakers but troll’s for them.

The only guide on the Gorge I would consider fishing with is Tarponjim. If he has some openings, grab one of them!

I've fished with him a number of times over the last 4 or 5 years and have learned a whole lot and caught some big, big fish! You can't go wrong.

I also have ben out with Jim and Would highly recommend him to anyone. I went last year and Nailed a 17 and a 38 with him. Missed others. I have a trip booked with him again this year. If you want to Jig, Then Jim is the man PERIOD!

I have meet and talked Kyle and he is a great guy. If you want to troll, Im sure that he can put you onto some great fish also.

But there is nothing like Puttin the steel to a big Laker with Jim on a 6' medium heavy action jigging rod and oh boy. A day you will remember forever. Go with Jim, You wont be Sorry!

Captain Jim does not know his lakers very well. Let me explain.

I tried for a couple of years to get a fishing date with Jim. I finally got on his "cancellation" list and got a short notice trip with him last year. I loaded up two grandsons and headed for the gorge the next day. Had a blast! We had a double hookup and while trying to keep lines from crossing my grandson let a little slack in his line and lost his fish. Mine was a 35 pound 42 inch monster. We had other fish on and missed several others when Jim decided to take us to a spot where we would catch more fish but smaller fish. OK. First "smaller" fish we caught was a 25 pounder. That's what I mean about Jim not knowing his lakers... his idea of a "small" laker is a 25 pounder.

If Jim has a "few open dates" jump on one of them! He will get you into some good fish and you will learn a lot from his experience and knowledge. I was fortunate enough to reserve the same two days I had last year for this year and I am really looking forward to getting after them again. I have had no experience with any of the other guides but I can tell you you can't go wrong fishing with Captain Jim.

I think you have all the information you need to book a quality Flaming Gorge trip......If it is jigging for them JIM is bar none the "yoda" of choice for me!! If you want to catch them on the move Kyle edwards is the only way to go. I know both of these men and what ever decision you make you will be in GOOD hands. Enjoy yourself and I wish you the best

it depends on how you want to fish. if you want to sit around and bs about the world today and wait for the fish to hook its self. you better not book with jim.

Hey Fish, I also have fished with Capt. Jim, and I can tell you it is worth every pennie. As for the others ( NO COMMENT).[Tongue]

hands down jim is the way you want go. i dont even care if you like trolling like i do. you must give jim a try! if you want a guide that will get you on the right track and cram your head with the best knowledge of the species he is the MAN.

Trout_Slayer and I took a trip down the gorge a few years ago. in hind sight we should have hired a guide, but just being back from overseas, it was great fishing the gorge with him, and after 2 days FINALLY figuring out how to catch some nice browns we had a blast. cant beat the scenery of the A section when floating down in a pontoon boat.
