I was thinking today. We all have our favortie method of fishing. Sometimes that FAVORITE is what we are good at. Sometimes the FAVORITE is just that, a favorite, when we as anglers are particularly skilled in one area.

An example of this would be Skeeter2, I have spent some time in a boat with him, and he is by far the most skilled "light weight plastics" guy I have ever fished with. This may not be his preference, but I would put his ability up there with the best of them. He may prefer to fish with a crank bait or spinner bait but his real skill lies in working that plastic rigged real light.

Some guys just shine at trolling. They can get a fish on the troll when other trollers are getting skunked and they troll up more fish than a guy using any other method.

I dont think any one would dispute BLM's ability to vertical jig a tube on bear lake. Theres just some real skill there. The guy proabably couldnt work a fly worth two cents though. Not that I would want him to. Hee Hee.

Anyways, I was wondering about the guys here on BFT and trying to figure out thier SKILLS through thier posts.

I was thinking that Poncho seems like he can work a lead head in structure.

Old walleye bob has to be extermely competent if not highly skilled in working soft bottoms with jigs and cranks.

And we have a host of others with what appear to be specific skills. But, I was wondering about old tomegun. Does any one fish with him enough to know where his skills are? What about Dennis W? Are these guys just all around skilled at everything so its hard to tell, or are they just keeping secrets better than the rest of us? I know they have skills, theres no doubt about that, from thier postings.

Also anyone else that you fish with that has a real talent for a certain type of fishing you wish to share?

I have never fished with leaky, but I bet the man could show you a thing or two about fishing a river. Even if you have been fishing rivers for a long, long time.

[purple][size 2]Forty years old ain't old, plus I'm pretty[cool]. I'm more of a casting type. I prefer jigs, grubs, senkos, and inline spinners. Last year, I really learned how to use a low profile baitcasting reel. Its so fun! Smallies are my favorite. I used to do extremely well at Strawberry(the cutthroats heard I became a bassfisherman thats why it sucks there now[]) I caught a 6 pound plus largie at Quail last weekend out of my float tube while using spinning gear... Plus, I'm luckier than good. When I'm good the luck is hanging out with the bikini babes... [/size][/purple]

I am really good at most all of the fishing steps, it is the last step of catching that I need work on!!!!

i will post for my pops,(road) he is skilled at fishing a nightcrawler, he can outfish anyone on strawberry on the shore, heck he can catch a ton when no body else catches any. Me I am still working on my abilities, but i still have a long time to get real good.

I'm sure everybody here has somebody who taught them how and why to work what they are good at. One of the best bait fisherman is the grandson of the old boat dock owner up at Deer Creek. I'm sure their is a couple of people on this site that knew Mr. Galetka.

I'm sure everybody learned more from their dads then they give credit.

I am with your dad fishboy2. Give me a worm and turn me loose. I have been many places where the fisherman are using all kinds of baits and I throw on a worm and rip them. I am not tooting my own horn because my son-in-law taught me how to fish. He was a good teacher.

[#ff0000]Cheers all! Yep, still alive. I'm learning new skills every day. Most recently on how to get this #%$@*&!! boat up and running! (Thought you'd appreciate that.) It was supposed to increase my fishing opportunities not compete with them! I did finish taking that spare tire rack off on the way home. I was planning on doing it anyway, but was wondering how you kept it on as long as you did. [/#ff0000]

Ok I have 2 skills when it comes to fishing. I am not as good as i would like to be at either of them. First are worms, I usually use nightcrawlers but I can catch fish with any worm. I am learning that what I use for Trout works for SMB and Walleye as well. But I have a long way to go on those fish yet.

Now my second skill is with a spinning rod and casting bubble. Yep you guys guessed it ....... poor mans fly fishing. Seems I only do well with 3 diffeent flies. But I do catch the big ones with them. It must be that they are tied on number 2 hooks and the little fish can't open their mouths that wide LOL. But I am learning an awful here. Jigging hasn't been great for me ..... it has produced from time to time. Trolling ........ I must be the worst troller in Utah! If it weren't for KentoFins I would be 0 for 3.

But that is how I fish flies and worms and they catch all fish, just depends on how you fish them.
