Got the boat in at Ririe yesterday. Nice to be back on some soft water. Surface temperature is a chilly 39 degrees. The big bay at Juniper is completely ice free. I tried to make it all the way to Meadow creek but ran into ice two corners into the canyon. It was very thin and rotten and should be gone in a matter of days. We trolled along the ice and found the Kokanee right away. Hooked a few fish and then found a dock in a cove and jigged up a few nice cutts. We did troll around the dam also with no success. Had to give up a 3 p.m. as the wind blew us off the lake. Kind of weird, we were the only ones on the lake. Good luck if you head up.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of lures do you use to catch kokanee on open water? I do not have a boat, but I sometimes pontoon Ririe while looking for bass. At times the Kokanee are surrounding me, but I can not get them to hit anything.

Sorry I take so long to reply. Any small spoon or spinner with a dash of pink on it seems to work. My favorites are Blue foxes, needlefish, Panther Martins, Kastmasters, and the ever so reliable Dick Nite spoon. I troll them on leadcore line down about fifteen to twenty feet or deeper if needed.

what were the size of the kokanee you caught, i fished there throught the ice and they were 10-13 inches. Did you catch a limit or did you just pick up one here and there. Any info is appreciated.
thanks

Would anyone be willing to give me a few pointers on Ririe. I am a Utard that has lived here 5 years and its time I get out and try some local lakes and streams. I have a boat and am wondering more about location lures presentation ect... Thanks

I found that wedding rings also work well on the kokes in the spring. Either orange or chartreuse tipped with worm. Daredevils seem to work pretty good on the trout also. The best fishing that I have had in the spring is above the dam around the first sharp corner in the lake. I plan on going up to ririe on friday afternoon and trying it.
