I didnt really know what to put for the subject line here so that is what I put. My question is, some family and family friends and I are going to Powell in a couple weeks and we were wanting to do some sort of tourney/derby for a little bit of money, does anyone have any good ideas how to put one together. I have one made up but everyone thinks it will be a little too expensive to get into ($90). I just did it as $2.50 per fish species (LMB, SMB, Striper, Walleye, Trout, Pike/Musky, Crappie, Blue Gill/Sunfish, and Catfish) for four full days of fishing. So whomever catches the biggest (weight) of say LMB get $2.50 from each person for that day. Anyway, instead of explaining how I have mine planned (since it seems like it wont happen) does anyone have a better way that they would do it, maybe making it a little cheaper on everyone yet keeping it very interesting and competitive??? Thanks for any info or help.

the easiest solution for this is to just let me smack you in the face and take your money when i get off the plane. in all seriousness, would a "team" event work? IE 2 people fish for what ever and a cumalitive total wins? biggest, most, of each spieces? they win what ever pot for the, or points, and then at the end of the trip make a first, second, and third place pot. the tems then divide up the money? im just spitballin here.

Anything right now sounds good to me as long as we have fun, but keep it competetive. Do me a favor, write out or explain to me later how EVERYTHING that you mentioned would work as far as how much per team and how the rules will go and such. What would be the teams? You and Dad, Tommy and Joanie, Tommy and I, if Uncle Dan and Moe Sr. goes they can be on a team? What about Jill? She doesnt plan on fishing that much, can I keep her on my team since I need a handicap???[

here:
the biggest of each species = 1 point
the most weight of each species = 1 point
biggest fish of the day = 1 bonus point
do that per day, bring down a big piece of card board to track us, add up points, winning team splits pot.
hows that?

There are many ways to do it but a couple of questions come to mind, how many people would be in your Derby? Would it just be friends that will be down there at the same time you are? The way I would do it is to keep it simple and just do it for one day. Then choose one or two species to target not 10. Just to keep it friendly, charge no more than $10 or at most $20 per person. Then set a starting time and an ending time. Meet at a certain location and either go by the longest or heaviest fish in what ever species you decide. If you want to make it a limit or more than just the largest fish then total the length or weight of all the fish of that species. Hope that helps.

Okay, if we do it that way, how about the stripers? I dont plan on keeping any stripers. Just not count them just like carp? How much per team? Are we just keeping track of points each day then the total at the end of the trip wins? Are we doing points per species? I think I am starting to like that idea just needs a little more explanation or tweeking if you know what I mean.
Wiperhunter- Thanks for the info too. Hope more tune in and give a few more ideas. Kochanut is my brother and he will be there with me so that is why we are chattin back and forth so much. There is going to be between 8-10 people with 2 people (wife's) not doing "too much" fishing!!!
