Man I'm getting desperate. I just don't know where to try. My rivers seem to be high with floating dead perch and dirty (Weber) and fishies are stuffed, warm water within reasonable distance is still too cold, Pelican kind of far with gas prices and too early, the Gorge too early for smallies, all the local reservoirs too early for bass, Sand Hollow and Quail an arm and a leg for gas, Blue L theft , gas and fishing going off, etc., etc.. I do enjoy the bassies best but also enjoy moving water for trout. Ain't a still water trout fisher guy, however,-----------? I'm looking for some action without waiting 1-2 months without applying for a home equity loan. [:/] Geeeeze I hate doing honey do projects and watching TV with the rowdy/hyper guy, Sparkinator. [mad] Any ideas?

Hit up the Ogden River in Ogden Canyon or the South Fork of the Ogden. As of yesterday, the Ogden was still very fishable. The water was a little up, but not bad, and it wasn't muddy. [cool]

We sure are having a slow start to the fishing season, we are headed down to Powell for 10 days. We should be able too get into alot of fish, they are catching some big Crappies and the Bass are staging and ready too spawn. We are heading up the San Juan canyon and North, hope its good. Even if the fishing isn't, the scenery is awesome.

Good luck, I will let you know how we do. Seems like the fishing has been picking up on Powell the water is up there in a good temp so the fish are active. Some reports have 100 + Stripped Bass a day. We like to fish for all species and the Stripped Bass are secondary if nothing is biting.

I guarantee you those big Weber browns have keyed in on those small perch. Hook one on and start dredging. Here's a related story coming from a friend in NY:

"[size 2]I fished the Mongaup on Saturday afternoon with a good result. I got a brown about 4 lbs. on a floating dead alewife fly. I was fishing a deep run where I have taken a number of good fish in the past. I found a couple of dead, but fresh alewife washed up on the shore;undoubtedly washouts from Rio Reservoir. I tossed them out in the run and a fish came to the surface and took one. I put on my FDAF and after about a dozen casts this fish clobbered it. I am debating with myself as to whether or not this counts as caught on a dry fly. I have been carrying this fly for probably 15 years with no success in the few times I have used it. This was my only fish for the afternoon. " [/size]

As I read the Utah Fishing Guidebook, not legal on the Weber River, but I have no doubt it would be highly effective.

[cool][#0000ff]But, I would bet that a perch finish Rapala or a well presented perchy streamer would get some looks.[/#0000ff]
