headed up to D.C. this morning to try for some walleye. Got to launch close to 7. We bottom bounced the whole north shore with flukes for close to five hours with no bites then decided a change was needed. We then decided to downrigg for trout. Best success was down only five feet. we trolled only with rocky mountain tackle. including dodgers and their spoons. after a few hours of that we decided to head up to the flats by the inlet and try for walleye one more time. After bottom bouncing a green fluke with pro cure herring scent for ten minutes i hooked my first D.C. Walleye. What a rush!!!!
There have been questions to how fast we were trolling when bottom bouncing. The answer is I dont know. we were using the front mount trolling motor and the finder wouldn't register. hence my answer slow slow slow. again the trout were down only 5 feet all day. even in the heat of the day our deepest depth was only 7 feet. Many fish were marked from 20 to 40 feet but i couldn't get them to bite for the life of me. One thing we were consistently doing is changing speeds. going from .5 to 1.7 mph when trolling for trout.
