Fished the Gorge this weekend, Did ok on smaller lakers the biggest was 12LBs, But what I want opinions on is when I fish the wyoming side of the lake I am checked by the fish and game on a regular basis, When I am on the Utah side I see them sitting in there truck not doing a dam thing, We pulled are boat out of the water and he just sat there and watched, Didn't see him check a license or nothing. What's up with that! Has anyone seen any different?

not that I go fishing often.....but I have never been checked. At Scofield, the F&G ranger chatted with me about what bait to use, how to fish it, what time, etc. Never asked to see my license. Maybe they they have special powers and they can see into your wallet or gear to see if you have one.

This should not be a surpise to you. I fish the Gorge quite often and have never been fully checked by Utah Wildlife Officers. They will occasionally ask for a license, but unless they suspect something illegal, they will cause you no further inconvinience; they may chat with you and get a catch and general fishing report.
Checking is a matter of officers getting to know you, your vehicle, and your boat, in my opinion. Perhaps the Wyoming Fish and Game warden has never seen you.

As far as their special powers, all I can say is that some of them have some pretty neat night vision equipment. I would like to get me some for night fishing, but the hundreds it costs for the good stuff will empty my pocket too much.[

last year i fished the gorge in the end of april on the wyoming side and got checked by the game wardens, also later in year november we got checked by the exact same wardens, same bay same boat everything the same. Both times they tore our boat apart checking for the right equipment ,and licenses. Very thorough. This year i was ice fishing sheep creek and the warden came down and checked all the parties on the ice. Another warden showed up shortly and came over to us and checked us out. In our B.S session i said "those guys over there seem to have the ticket" because i noticed they were catching quite a few more fish, the game warden then said randomly "no the ticket was for marijuana" so i am assuming they had been scoping everybody on on the ice before coming down and seen them indulging, very thorough once again. I only fish the gorge 5 or so times a year and get checked often. Maybe We look fishy.

[laugh][laugh][laugh] LMAO!
This is not breaking news! There has NEVER been any law enforcement effort on the Utah portion of Flaming Gorge. The snaggers snag and openly fish Linwood Bay during closed hours in the fall, the poachers poach, drunk operators run their boats all summer, boats are overloaded and don't have adequate life jackets, and it all falls on blind, non-caring eyes. Period. Been that way for over 20 years, and through numerous wardens. Their priorities are the Green River, pot smokers, and hunting season.

LOL.... I agree with TJ!! Sit at the launch ramp and watch the the parkies during a bass tournament. The state boat will be in the slip all day long. 15 minutes before weigh-in the officer will jump in his boat and and sit just inside the no-wake zone. He will proceed to stop 4-5 bass boats, who he feels are violating the no-wake zone law. After all the anlgers have entered the marina, he will park his boat and leave.

We got checked while on Flaming Gorge last summer. The game warden was curtious but to the point. They relax when you are catch and release fishing and see the live well empty. Then it becomes a survey of what was caught and released. The game warden waved us past a road check when he rememberd us from the day before on the lake which was nice not to be delayed again. He did gives us a good tip on a spot that paid off. I got checked in Idaho so often that when we headed in we would make sure every thing in the boat was in order. Yes bag those beer cans.
We got checked at Willard a couple weeks ago on a Sunday. We were running late and got through it fairly quickly. I told the game warden they were checking on the wrong end of the trip. Always ask for a receipt when your checked. Idaho will give you a sticker for the transom of your boat to show you were check which many times will help avoid the delay of another inspection.

[frown] While you guys are all complaining about the Gorge, how about Strawberry. I've fished there an average to 30 days a year for the past 25 years and have never been checked. Perhaps if there was more checking, there would be fewer stringers of illegal fish going home with jerks!![:p]

This is something that I have lobbied the Wyo game and fish for. To have a sticker program to show who has had a safety inspection, and who hasn't.
I usually get checked four to five times a year. After about the third time of showing my PFD's,the fire extinguisher, flotation device, and my fishing license it gets a little old. I understand checking licenses because a boat does not always have the same people on it.
It seems to me that once your boat has passed a inspection a sticker showing that it has, would be beneficial to both the game and fish, and the boater's. It's redundant to check the same boat over and over again.
Linedangler, said” And not to mean any negativity on behalf of Wyoming folks, but the Wyoming side sees a lot more over the limit alcohol use”
What a totally ignorant thing to say. I have fished the gorge for almost thirty years now, and I see the biggest share of drunken boaters, being from states other then Wyoming. Your example of drunken ice fisherman is a poor example. Do you KNOW for sure, they were from Wyo? You paint the whole state of Wyo with a very broad brush, given your example. You say you mean no negativity towards the people of Wyo, then you turn around and with one broad stroke say that most of us are nothing more then drunken fishermen.
I have to ask have you ever stood at a boat ramp all day and taken a poll as to who has been drinking, and where they are from? I would be willing to bet you haven’t. Unless you have some proof of this, I suggest you keep dumb ass opinions like this to your self.

I can't explain why you haven't been checked, because I have been checked several times up there. Once I was even checked while I was out on the water fishing from my boat. The last time I was checked was less than a month ago while ice fishing. Two DWR officers stopped by on snowmobiles.
