I was ice fishing up at ririe reservoir through the ice this year and caught this trout, to me it is a rainbow, but i have caught 100's of trout ( in utah) and have yet to catch one that looks like this, is this a common looking trout in idaho? any info is greatly appreciated. It was released, those kokanne are alot better eating.

Hello Idaho anglers!
I am from Utah and came across this thread. For what it is worth, I will state my opinion as to the identification of the trout in the pictures.
I think this is either a rainbow or a rainbow-cutthroat hybrid. It is not too often that such colors are seen, but often enough. The coloration (pale, and a bit dark-yellow greenish) is probably due to the water environent where it was caught.

The fish is a finespotted cutthroat trout.

I agree with Everet 14. It's a finespot cutthroat as far as I can tell. It doesn't have white fin tips, or any spots on the head as far as I can see, and it definately has fine spots. That was a good call to release it though, it's always better to play on the safe side when you are not sure.
Happy fishing!

I'd go with the snake river ( fine speckled ) cutt or a cuttbow hybrid.

Everett14 is correct. It is a fine spotted cutthroat. There are many just like it in Ririe. Most people do not target the trout in the winter. I like to target them because they give my kids lots of action while I am waiting for Kokes.
