Woke up this morning at 2 AM. Decided to try Willard and I have not fished since last year and I only went once.[frown]
I got to Willard about 9 AM. Left about 7 PM.
I got all psyched up to try my cheap $177 Sevylor boat.
I went to the south dike at Willard Bay, about the middle of the south dike.
Oh man I had to carry all the stuff, I forgot how tragic it can be to do all that. I had to carry up the dike an 80 pound battery! I was so mad and in an inpatient mood! I wanted to go right to fishing I was frustrated, not good cause fishing should be fun.
Well I brought with me a water thermostat and a cheap $45 depth finder.[cool]
I did not catch anything when I got there of course I had to test my electric trolling motor, also those darn $120 Minn Kotas go fast! At speed #1 it goes pretty fast, not bad for $120! The 30 pound thrust halls cookie! Its well worth $120.
I was disappointed because I actually wanted a slow trolling motor to troll for cats. Looks like this summer when cats get more active I'll just have to try trolling fast and then reel in my line slow to imitate a drift. Its just something I want to try for cats, pure curiosity.
Well the surface temp was 59 when I got there but rose to about 62. But the cats were not biting 'till about 5 PM.
In fact I caught 2 cats about 100 yards off the bank in 13 feet of water. None in the shallows, I tried 7 and 8 foot deep water, nothing.
The cats I caught were your average Willard Bay cats.
One went 15" the other 13". They were caught on night crawlers . I also tried sucker meat, nothing.
The smallest cat had eggs, a thing cause the cats at Willard don't have any place to spawn.[pirate]
The 13" cat nearly killed me! When I grabbed it the spines! Ouch! They cut my left hand and I had blood dripping!
And to add more tragedy the darn thing made a hole in the floor of my inflatable boat, go Sevylor! So now I have to patch it! Good thing they come with a repair kit.
Here the pics.
