So I got home from work about an hour before my wife so I grabbed my rod and bolted to the Jordan behind my house to try and squeeze a few casts in before she got home. I brought my bow and shot a couple carp for some bait. They are not quite to the "rolling over each other" stage of the spawn but I could still see a few cruising the shallows. After preparing the carp for catfood, I soaked a good sized chunk on a #2 circle hook with a sliding sinker in the shallows near the reeds and after about fifteen minutes and a few nibs here and there, my pole doubled over and the line went singing out. It was a fun fight and I played the big guy for a bit. It was a struggle to keep him out of the brush, but I banked him eventually. He ended up being around 27" and was probably 6 to 7 lbs. (forgot my scale in my rush to beat my wife home). I took a few pics and released him. Pulled a few decent mudders in before I had to split. Not a bad day, considering my time crunch. But you gotta squeeze it in when you can, eh?

Nice work! That's a healthy looking cat.

Thanks! The Bullheads I got were some of the biggest I've ever caught before (for a mudder). I've fished the same spot before and only caught small ones but I was using crawlers. I don't know if the cut bait attracts bigger fish, but it kept the little guys off my line.

I live in North Lehi, so I just hit up the river just south of Thanksgiving Point golf course. There are a couple of bends in the river that tend to have some nice eddies. There are also a few areas were there are some steep bank like cliffs that seem to hold some good sized cats. Fish the deeper holes, but don't overlook the shallows by the reeds, cause I think they're starting to move in these spots, especially in the evening. Good luck!

[shocked] sweet fish.. I fished at around 5400 south and scored on a 13lb carp and a small sucker. The funny thing is the carp nailed my jig because i was fishing for white bass.
