I managed to get away for a little yesterday. I stung up the rod and went to the parkway due to time limitations. The river is running low, but it is a little off color. No problem. Got my new waders on and my wading boots (with tungsten cleats for extra grip. So nice!) and headed up river. First cast I hook up. 10 minutes later a very nice rainbow is in the net. 14 inches long, fat and very vibrant on the colors. I set him free and keep fishing. I hear the bushes next to me moving and soon this mink rolls down the bank and into the river. I watched him for a few minutes scavange along the bank, jump in and get swept past me down stream. I return to fishing and get another smaller brown. I move up lossing flies in the trees and fighing the current. I return back to the original spot again and hook another rainbow, same size as the other, just not as colorful. Then my mink friend returns for a little then runs off when a dog comes down the parkway. I missed a few more and called it a day. I spend 2 hours on the river fishing with three fish. Not to bad considering the water is a little stained. All fish were caught on a size 16 prince. No hits on the other files (BDPH, Hare's ear, copper john, zebra, yong special). Some mayfly action started up and there was some top action but they were little. I tried a size 18 PT to see what I could get, but no takers.

A yong special is a small thread fly that is easy to tie. It imitates the midge larva. Yong tied it to use on the San Juan river system, works everywhere though. Great winter fly.
