I depends on how stained the water is from the run off but I have done ok early in the morning before the sun comes over the canyon wall. I have done the best for the cuts using a water bubble to get the bait out there and yet keep it out of the rocks. If I do not use the bubble i have a hard time fishing from the bank without snagging up on the rocks. I also catch small mouth with my fly rod on poppers early in the morning if the water is calm.

I don't know anything about Ririe, but I just wanted to leave a couple of thoughts.
You don't have to be in the middle of the river to catch a fish.
I usually see fish feeding at dawn or dusk, this is when I see minows feeding, near the banks to.
So hopefully thinking like a fish, I would think they would want to be where the food is?
I just wanted to point out that the common misconception that you have to get out far, to land the big fish, sometimes it will surprise you...

That is true. However, in the larger reserviors it is often frustrating to see the boaters landing fish while us "shore-bound" fishermen are sitting and waiting.
I was specifically interested in the kokanee fishing that i keep reading about. Each post refers to trolling, down riggers and other various boating techniques.
We have managed to catch some very nice rainbows in the smaller reserviors.

I fly fish and alot of the time I 'm not out to far from shore and I cast toward shore. the fish are there you just need to give them what they want. try different baits, lures, or flies til you find what they want and if that does't work its just nice being out
