It depends on how early or late you plan on fishing, We caught our big slabs at PV a few weeks ago in the morning but I've always done better for the cats at BR in the evening and night. I think with the warming temps you would do better going after the cats. If you go to BR, I've done good fishing along that road that goes to the Bird Refuge, there are several places you can stop and fish as you drive down that road. Good luck. WH2

Wh2,
I tried along the road and only got a few small channels. Any suggestions? I tried worms and carp meat. How close to the refuge(where the river is dammed up) would you fish?
Thanks,
Justin

I've caught some big ones farther down the road where the river comes close to the road, then turns away to the north. There is a place to park there, I have fished along this stretch and down river but I did best after dark. Also you can park outside the gate at the end of the road and walk into the gated area and fish, I have never done it before but I have heard that you can stay till after dark and come out when ever you want. Hopefully someone else can tell you about this but I have heard there are some large cats down there in the lower part of the river. I have never fished from shore above the dam area, I have launched my boat at Corine and taken it down to the dam. The river splits above the dam and there are some deeper holes in that other direction that have some good cats but it is a long walk and I think you would have to go across private land to get to them. In most cases you will catch smaller cats in the day time and the evening and after dark is when the bigger ones come out looking for food. One last thing, if you keep following the river down a ways from the dam, you will come across a bunch of old cars on the bank of the river. This can be a good place at times because big cats like to hide in these car bodies but I have never caught a big one there, this doesn't mean you can't. The bait you are using should work fine but you could also try sucker or chub meat. Good luck, I hope this helps. WH2

Catfishin' should be really hot now my future mother-in-law went for mothers day on the bear river and beached over 50... one 17 pounder and a few around ten! She uses nothing but nightcrawlers in about 2-3 ft of water.
