No ice. Numerous fish over 20 inches have been caught there in the last few days. If you want to go, go.

I was supposed to take the cats to get spayed and neuterd on Friday so I took the day off to do that (big fix utah) because my wife couldn't. When I was about to leave to do this I looked online and found it was to happen on Monday. So since I had the day off I decided to go up to Lost Creek. I got there late at about 9:15am and fished until about 11am. I caught 2 and had 2 others on. One was about 12-13 inches and the other was a pretty nice 16 " rainbow. Alot of fish were surfacing and the water was very dirty. I was fishing near the dam on the west side. There were several on the east side that were catching some too. Overall I was happy with what I caught considering it was a last minute decision to fish for the day.

I tried both worms and rainbow power bait. The 2 or 3 times I've been up there I've only caught them on powerbait. So that is what I caught them on this time was powerbait-they weren't taking worms at all. I've caught them on green and then this time rainbow colored.
Lost creek is at the turn off to Croydon I think is what it is called. If you are coming from ogden the turn off to it is about 10 miles past Morgan. You then need to drive another 10 or 15 miles up a windy, narrow road with many potholes. If you are coming from the other way it is just after you enter the canyon past henefer. I like the drive up there. No charge to fish there but they do lock the gate at 8pm I think.

I fished at Lost Creek a lot last year, usually catching my limit within two hours, usually by trolling tiny spoons. This year I've gone three times with friends or family, and we limited out each time, using PowerBait. The fish were in shallow water. The water was muddy on Friday, and the fish were hard to find because I left my fishfinder home. We tried an area that had produced the previous week and hammered them. The fish are much fatter this year. I heard of a six-pounder and a four-pounder, but most of the bigger fish are 12 to 14 inches.

How full is Lost Creek?

Well On Friday they were not letting any water out. From the mouth of the dam until the first main runoff there a mile down the canyon the water was clear but with all the other little streams feeding into the stream by the time it makes it to the weber it is pretty muddy and fill. So where I was fishing the water was into some of the willow bushes so I'd say it is pretty full right now. I really don't go much there and didn't pay attention on how far it went up to the dam but I'd say they are filling it right now and looks to be pretty full to me.
Sorry for a bad answer maybe someone else can answer better.

Where are you getting your information from? You just seem to know eveything about everywhere.
There are not Numerous 20" trout coming out of Lost Creek and Causey. You can consider yourself dang lucky if you can get a 20" from Lost Creek, and if you get one from Causey, you had better mount it. There are fish over 20" in both lakes but it's not a common thing to catch them.
So when you say "There are NUMEROUS 20" trout coming out of there" What are you saying? Who caught them?

Dude don't know where you've been, I caught numerous cuts over 20" at lost creek this year through the ice. Friends I fish with caught a few pushing 6 lbs. The cuts are competitive to the berry this year.

When you guys say "Numerous", what does that mean???
I know there are 20" fish in both lakes but I would never say that Lost Creek is comparable to Strawberry. I would say the average fish in Lost creek is 13-14 inches long. In Causey probably about the same. I know tons of people that fish Lost creek, some of them every week. I personally fish Causey quite a bit. A 20 incher is not common in either lake.
I'm not saying you didn't catch 20 inchers from Lost creek, just saying that it's uncommon. If you are catching 20 inchers consistently (Which to me means "numerous"), then you must know something that nobody else knows about that lake.

Here is the Report from the DWR
[#555555]LOST CREEK RESERVOIR:[/#555555] The DWR completed its annual fish population survey on May 2 and found abundant trout populations. While there were many smaller fish, biologist Ben Nadolski also reported that there were five fish over 20 inches.

I guess we are both kind of right [crazy]

I was up there Saturday in my boat,I caught 11 in about 5 hrs. and for some reason every one of them were less than 8 inches. one was about 12". I have fished there for years and every year seems like they get smaller. I just don't get it, I know there have to be bigger fish in there but I just don't catch them.

Hey HookJaw_Brimhall, my dad drives around there often and he usually asks people around about the fishing all the time, no matter where he goes. I also know a couple of guys that like both of the reservoirs.
The DWR does not always net big fish. The gill nets capture watever fits the particular net size and mesh. It is also impractical to just net the whole lake. So the net surveys are pretty accurate most of the time but not always.
Many people do not know the potential of Causey and Lost Creek. There are fish there over 20 inches, and probably good numbers around 24 inches as well. It would not surprise me.
Try them sometime soon, after the water clears, and targe the larger ones. Good fishing to you then and both places.[]
