Windriver suggested I ask you guys on the forum sooooooooo, here goes. I'm down here in Ut. (Ogden) with the "Sparkinator"/Sparky looking for some smallie fishun. Used to go to Swan Falls for many years but age, fixed income and gas prices have caught up with me. Anyways, I heard the the Raft River and Ririe Res. might be an area to try. I'm a tuber or bank guy for rivers so that is a major consideration, Obviously I don't have the nickels to spend on a boat but, ya know, I just enjoy getting up close and personal to the water and fishies. My problem is I don't know a dang thing about those areas and they are pretty big to just go "blind". So, any comments/suggestions on specific areas would be greatly appreciated. A PM would probably be wise if you're wiling to "give it up". [

P.S. Just thought I'd mention that smallie fishun is my first love, especially moving water.

Oh well, ------------, I tried. [:/] Doesn't look like I'm going to get any input. Guess I'll have to just spend the time and gas $ to explore and learn for myself. Been there, done that.[

Not sure if this helps but check out the smallies that come out of Brownlee in another post. The local lakes around here in the Boise River system, Lucky Peak, Arrowrock and Anderson Ranch have a ton of smallmouth but not much size to them. On the other hand, Brownlee has some really nice smallmouth.
Considerably further to drive from Ogden if you're making a three day weekend of it; might want to add a day for Brownlee up near Weiser.
Up north at Dworshak, I believe, has the new state record smallmouth. Some real lunkers up there.
Someone should chime in on Ririe and that area if you just leave this thread open until the right person sees it.

That's my problem, distance and gas$. As I mentioned, Swan Falls is my all time favorite and I'd go back there in a heart beat if it wasn't for distance, $ and just gettun old. Still might do it though. Thanks for the input though. [

I fished Anderson Ranch this past weekend. We caught a few smallmouth on worms and marshmallows. Size limit is 13" to keep so we turned them all loose. Had one that may have been 13", but nothing to measure with so we let it go. We fished off the bank near one of the campgrounds above Elk Creek.
