They have been collecting tax from me for over a year on mail orders. You must have been very lucky,

From what I have heard, they only collect the sales tax if you live in the state where the store is located but the bad thing is you get the double whammy, sales tax and shipping fee. I'm sure it is still cheaper than driving down there, unless you live close by[

I guess I got lucky....I figured that when the new store opened up they would be taxing me, but the last time I ordered about 3 mos ago, it was still tax free...I guess it's too bad for me they finally caught on that I live in Utah!

They are collecting tax due to a new law that went into affect by the Utah legislature. All internet orders are supposed to be taxed now, although not all retailers are caught up on that yet.

There may be some new law, but If a business has a retail store in a state they must collect sales tax on orders shipped to customers in that state. This has been the law for several years.

AND.. if you bought something and didn't pay sales tax.. that's where you are supposed to claim USE TAX. ...
I HATE use tax.. I called the state tax division one year when I was doing my taxes and asked them how they can charge a tax that they have no way of proving. I said you are just relying on the guilty conscience of your citizens. Her answer "Yeah, I know.."
Basically, they are saying.. OK, your taxes are almost done.. Now, was there anything that you bought ANYWHERE and didn't pay sales tax on? If so, enter the amount below..
OR, maybe I have been doing my taxes incorrectly.. (I hope)

Use tax is probably the most ignored, unenforced, unaware of by the general public, (add your own adjective) tax that there is.
