[#000000]Hooked up with Beggin4bass on Saturday in the AM and headed out to Strawberry. At the boat ramp we met up with Kentofnsl, N.E.T.O., and Nobites and exchanged salutations, then headed out to Ladders where we thought there might be fish.
As we made our way out across the reservoir there was no wind and it was basically smooth, but, the water had a thin layer of ice in spots.
Kent and crew were already there dropping marker bouys and looking for schools of fish. We didn't see any big concentrations or groups, but, we did mark a few here and there, so we stopped and set up shop and let the boat just kind of drift. All of the fish we saw were apparently busy with other things and were not interested in our company. After a short time of nothingness, we hailed over to Kent's boat hoping they had found a secret. Drats ! They were having the same lack of success we were. Some time later, we saw Kent and crew head off in kind of a westerly direction to find another location and saw no more of them the rest of the day.
After wasting entirely too much time there, we gave up as well. We took off to find some fish. And, we did. It took a couple of guesses, but we tracked them down and were able to get into some fairly steady action.
They were not huddled together or hunkered down in large numbers, nor were they agressive. Most of the bites, hits, taps, misses, hook-ups, and catches were quite subtle, but the fights were Strawberry good.
We used a variety of offerings - jigs, drop shots, and crankbaits. For tactics, we jigged, drifted, and casted. We never had an actual double, but we did have a few sequential hook-ups that were real close. We did try to keep count of the fish, but, ended up just saying "the heck with it" - we really don't know how many we caught. Suffice it to say that it was enough to call it a great day on the water with great fishing. [/#000000]
We called it a day sometime between 1:30 and 2:00 after the traditional afternoon breeze kicked in.
