I debated going to Strawberry this weekend, however my Buddy Tom said he was headed to Bear Lake, so being a native of the area, I decided to head up and visit Mom and see if we could hook up with a few of the big Cutts. From the sounds of the Strawberry report I just read, I think I made the right choice, here are some pics. Fishing was slow, but when we hooked up, every fish was big. The biggest Cutt went 11 lbs, we caught 7 over 5 lbs. It was a great weekend, and the weather could not have been better. I even landed a Mack on my long line for good measure. Having grown up in the Bear Lake Valley, it was nice to relive some of the old days.

Very nice cutts. It appears you were fishing from the State marina rocks. Or did you just do your photos there? Or were you in a boat?

Where were you at? I am headed up to Bear Lake next weekend for a family reunion. Maybe I can get away and catch some good looking fish like you did. Do you mind telling me what you were catching them on?

We were fishing from the Marina, however I think we would have done even better with a boat. I didn't quite have mine dewinterized yet, so we opted for the shore. We fished a lot of hours, in the morning and evening. Plan on casting for a long time before you get a hit, but when we caught one it was big. We were using daredevils in various colors, I caught two on an extra large blue colored Lucky Craft, which I lost on the last day. That was a hard pill to swallow since it cost $17.99. I don't think it was any particular color they were hitting because nothing we used was consistent, it was just being in the right place at the right time.

I have a few more pics but they are on my buddy's camera, I will try to post those in the next few days. These were some of the most beautiful fish I have ever caught, very healthy looking. We put them all back since none had clipped fins, but we would have put them back for another day in any case.

How many people have ever caught an 11lb. cut in Utah?
Probably about .0000001 percent of the fishermen.
That is IMPRESSIVE!!!!!

That was definately the biggest Cutt I have seen caught around here, we weighed him quickly and got him back in the water because he was bleeding from the gill a bit and we didn't want to keep him out of the water for more than a few seconds, I would estimate the length at 30-32" and a real fatty we didn't measure him cause we wanted to make sure he lived another day. He swam away in great shape, so he is still out there. I have video of most of the battle, however it is 235MB so I won't be posting it. We thought the one I caught the 1st night was going to be the biggest of the trip that is the one named Scott Big Cutt Bear Lake.jpg but we caught 4 or 5 bigger, I won't forget it for a while.

You all did really great. There is nothing like a big Bear Lake Bear Lake Cutt.
It looks like you were shore fishing. Did you catch them on lures or bait? Were you bottome fishing?
