The weather was great but the trout weren't biting. If they were, it was hardly noticable and a nibble less than a small perch would make. Hard to notice in the wind and you had to set the hook in order to catch one.
The ice just melted off the lower end of the lake last Wednesday. My largest was a 16" 1.78 lbs caught on the north end. I had to cast out past the perch with lots of weight.
The perch action was hot. The kids caught a ton of perch near the shore down by the Blue Heron boat launch. Largest one was 12" and weighed 13 ounces. A lot of 10" fatties.
There were a lot less fisherman this year than years past because of the date change caused by ice. Largest fish that won the $500 prize was only 3.33 lbs. 6th place was 1.96lbs! Pretty small fish compared to years past.
