After doing a bit of research, I decided there's a few "big" places (real waters, instead of community ponds) I'd be willing to go.

This might seem like a silly question, but I just want some clarification. I do read reports, but one little detail seems to either be assumed or just not mentioned. For lakes and reservoirs, is most of the fishing from boats? Because I don't have a boat, so unless I go on a trip with somebody, I'll be shore fishing, and therefor can't be roaming big areas and get more chances of bites. I don't want to waste an hour's drive and $20 in gas, to go and get totally skunked! Would shore fishing be any good at these:
Causey
East Canyon
Echo
Mantua

I don't necessarily want to know any secret hotspots, but at least somewhere I'd have a decent chance at not spoiling all the time and money put into going somewhere other than community ponds which are closer and cheaper! [Wink]

Edit: Oh yeah, and Willard too! I keep hearing about dikes...guess I'll have to go explore that some time.

Drive another 25 minutes past EC to Lost Creek above Morgan and catch all the trout you can handle on power bait or worm/marshmallow. My .02[Wink]

buy a float tube. you dont need anything fancy. just a decent tube, some good waders, and fins with clips. go to PV, EC, where ever, shove off, and fish to your hearts content. if you really want to go balls to the wall, get your self the new fish'in buddy, that way you have some sort of sonar. i have caught some massive fish from my float tube. be careful if your on a bigger lake though. wear a life jacket, you never know when some idiot will come buzzing by you on a jet ski or ski boat.

East canyon was great fishing last weekend.. fished just past the dame,in the first cove you past.. It was a little steep, but fishing was worth it.. Landed 10 nice bows in about 1 hr.chartreuse power bait..

[cool][#0000ff]We can make the next session of Fishing 101 a tour of some of the waters, showing where and how to fish them from shore.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Just getting there is only part of the equation. Knowing how to rig and fish...for the available species...is important too.[/#0000ff]

I've been looking at float tubes, actually. There's a couple on KSL ads, one $20, one $50 and one of them comes with flippers. The waders I'm really having trouble with! I'm just a tiny thing (ask Pat!), only 5-foot-nothin' and barely 90 lbs... the smallest size I can ever find is man's Medium...I'll get lost in those! Plus, I would prefer non-felt soles, cuz that's what DWR prefers (if I remember right), and I'd rather stick with stuff easy to clean for ANS.
And the life jacket, of course!

My problem is, I'm broke! Gotta spend probably $200+ on fixing/registering my car this next week. I may have to wait until next year to get more equipment. In the meanwhile, I'll just "practice my casting" Wink LOL

[cool][#0000ff]Tiny? You ain't kiddin'. You could use a latex glove for a full body wetsuit.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]During the summer months you will not need waders...just cutoffs and tennies. We have extra fins (adjustable) and extra tubes if you wanna try it before investing. And, we still have a round float tube in the Fishing 101 stash. Needs a new 20 inch inner tube but new otherwise.[/#0000ff]

Oohhh...yeah, a test run would be nice!
When is the next 101, anyhoo?

[cool][#0000ff]When school is out, we can team up with IcePrincess and her girls and find some water.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Willard Bay should be coming on good again for shoreline action in a couple of places.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If we can get you into some wipers we will have to drop you off at the emergency room to get the grin surgically removed from your face.[/#0000ff]

I went to Willard last Friday and was disappointed. I fished from shores at the south end and north end. I didn't see many people and nor fish. It looks like the canal inlet at the south end should be a good place, but no action on that day. The north state park charges $10 for entrance fee. There is a little park at the same place charging $3, but I think the water reachable from shore is too shallow. Are there other places for shore fishing? Or did anybody have good experiences?

And you forgot to tell her she would have to miss work for a day or two till her arms got better as well...[Wink]

Oohhh, I already know plenty about that. My first trip of the year, my fingers, hands and arms were stiff and sore the next day (I even posted about it!). This is one, and few, times I'm glad I don't have a job. I can just pack up and go fish whenever I feel like it [Wink]

Just got back from Weber River, and I'm already startin' to ache a bit. But oh well, it was fun! (even if the fish do hate me)

[cool][#0000ff]By fishing extensively around the edges of Willard with my float tube...and sonar...I know several places where it is possible to cast into deeper water with a relatively short cast. Some of these spots produce lots of kitties, wipers, walleyes and crappies during their respective times. In fact, we have a couple of spots where we position our tubes about 30 feet from the edge of the water and cast right to the shoreline...bouncing jigs along the bottom on the way back. 8-10 feet of water within casting range of the shore.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Unfortunately, for bank tanglers, most of the perimeter of Willard is shallow, and it takes a long cast to reach even five feet of water. Only when the wipers are chasing shad, later in the summer, will those spots be worth fishing. Of course, they are often good for catfish at night, since the cats sometimes come into very skinny water after dark.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]As a rule of thumb, I do not like to fish Willard within two to three days of a weather front going through. I prefer to have at least a couple of good warm calm days in front of my trips. That lets the temps climb a bit and the fish to settle down.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]You can almost always catch something somewhere on Willard, but you can really improve your odds by hitting it when the fish are more active.[/#0000ff]

All you will need is a bag of Gulp minnows in smelt 3" and your pole I have the rest...

cabelas has waders your size. i got an ex a pair there and she was a tiny little thing also, but we found the womens size and she fit them just fine. Trout_Slayer still has my pontoon boat in his garage, i never was able to sell it for beer money before i left for iraq. its alot bigger then a float tube, but you also dont need waders for it since you sit so much higher out of the water. 100 bucks is what i want for it. PM me and i can get you in touch with him. on a side note, due to what im doing here i dont know how often i will be able to check BFT but i promise if you PM me ill get back with you.

I've also got a couple old Buck's Bags Hi-n-Dri tubes I am going to get rid of for cheap pretty soon (once I patch the tubes). They're old, but Buck's tubes last forever!

I just "wasted" $900 to get my car fixed so it'll pass inspection, and I still have another $100 or so for registering it next week. I doubt I'll be buying anything else this year. Unless it's less than $20, I'll just have to wait.
I am considering buying wading boots, simply because I decided I'm going to try to fish Weber River every weekend until fall, and they'll get plenty of use and be worth the $50....I hope!
Unless I get stuff off Freecycle, I gotta stick with what measly equipment I got, for this season [:/]

There are a lot of good holes on the weber that you don't have to get in the water to fish.
Also, there are a couple good holes that you can access from shore that you don't even need to travel up to canyon to get to.
When I was going to school at Weber State, on the drive home I would often stop off at the mouth of the canyon, catch a few trout then go home.

Vivid, I'm re-organizing my fishing gear right now and when im done i should have a bunch of fishing stuff that would help you out and you can have it for free, so send me a PM and after this weekend we can find a way to get it to you.
