Wonder of wonders, I got to go fishing today. Took the big red Skeeter up to the creek to chase some SMB. The adventure started on the way up when the bearings on the trailer overheated, both sides, what is the chance of that happening. Going slow and pumping a lot of grease into the hubs got me to the ramp. Met some friends on the water and we headed north. Most noticeable feature was the LOW water. They are still working on the dam and spillway, so the water level is WAY LOW, like down 50 ft. Water temp was in the high 50's and there was a south wind blowing.

Worked the north end, but it was buster, not much going at all. Most of the points and other structure that we usually fish was all out of water. Eventually the wind drove us down to Wallsburg, where again, we had good water temps, but very slow fishing. My partner scored on a small Wallinski, about 2lbs, and we thought our luck had changed, it had, it got worse !!! 1 fat eater between the 4 of us !! The fishing was great, the catching was the pits.

Was able to grease up the hubs and made it home, but now I have a new chore on Saturday instead of fishing, new bearings and seals. Is there a reason that we fish out of tubes and toons that is escaping me ?? NOT !! Still, inspite of all the misfortune, it was great to be on the water.

There were several bright spots however. The gal at the booth checked out the rig for any unwanted hitchhikers and did the Quagga check list. Props to the Parks people for that. With the low water, there is a GREAT CROP of grass growing in the Saddles all around the res, which will provide most excellent cover and fertilizer when the water finally comes up. Another bright spot, NO WATER SKIERS, but we did have a couple of wind surfers who almost took out my buddy's rig !! in the no wake zone no less !! Sorry, no pics, not much to shoot any way, other than myself and those are to horrible to post, give everyone nightmares. Better luck next time, I hope.
[cool][#0000ff]Man. Some people will go to almost any lengths and endure the unendurable...just to be able to post a report.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Glad you got on the water...belatedly. Sorry you did not enjoy greater success. There are always good days and bad days.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]That low water at DC really is a mixed blessing. It keeps the power squadron at a minimum, but it sure messes up the traditional fishing spots.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I have planned two or three trips up there but the forecast for wind always comes up to alter my plans. I do not like to windsurf in my tube and Deer Creek is notorious for windsurfers...voluntary and otherwise. Been there, done that. Prefer to avoid both when I can.[/#0000ff]
