figured someone other then me would get a laugh out of this. i figure at least Trout_Slayer would laugh but here gos.

so i woke up around 0330 and low and behold the sun was comming up. so i decided to use the rod i found in my barracks and the little green spinner on it and try my luck at the nearest palace lake. i made it to Al Faw after dodging multiple Hummvess and Stryker vehicles around 0350. started casting near the bridge embankments, and on my second cast BAM! caught and landed a carp that went around 15lbs. took roughly 15 to 20 minutes to kand since the line on the rod i found was so crappy. had about 7 or 8 officers standing on the bridge watching me. it almost seemed like they thought i was odd, fishing in PT gear, with a weapon. anyway it was a blast and work time was comming quick so i high tailed it back to my quarters and showered/changed to go to work.

air temp, about 102F. water temp.... theres no damn way im going in that lake to find out, i have no clue whats in there, but i would say high to mid 80's, maybe even low 90's.

im going to actually go around the lakes on my day off and hit each one. one of the lakes is called walleye lake. im going to go out on a limb and say that it holds no walleye though =-( ill post pics when i have a free second. hows the logan and provo fishing?

by the way, Al Faw Palace is located near downtown Baghdad =-p

Talk about your long distance report! Glad you could get a little rec time in before work. A big thanks for being over there defending freedom. Good luck and be safe.

Here we go again hot-spotting a small body of water. Watch the hordes of anglers quickly descend on it and fish it all out. [Wink] Never tried to fish fully armed, that has got to be a different experience.

thats great you had a chance to wet a line for a few and even get a fish, nice.
you know, I just bet, if you posted your mailling adress on here some of us would be glad to send you some better line and maybe a few lures. I'm willing, I have already sent a bunch of rod building materials and a bunch of munches to a guy that posted on the rod building board.

[#ff4040][size 5]what do you guys say ?[/size][/#ff4040]

hey TS, try to find me a few cheap-o travel rods. you know the ones you can break down into like 8 pieces. look for 3 or 4 of them. one of the Marines here snapped about 1/4th of the rod off today on a huge, bass looking thing while he was fishing during lunch. let me know how much you need. oh and

i emailed you 4 days ago. ill do it again in the next few days. im wandering around tomorrow looking for some new fishin holes when i have any spare time. by the way my camera is broke, so im getting a new one, ill post pics here and there when we all go fishing during chow.

I have two of those "infomercial" "pocket rods" will those do? I will also send some of the rods/reels that are hanging in the rafters (garage)!!! Need flies? I know when I was there the last couple times some guys would fly fish for carp and the other 5 eyed species!!!

the old man is sending my fly rod and my flies as soon as he gets home, so i should be all set for them. those pocket rods would be perfect for these guys. one of them had never fished before today and caught this green little thing that you would swear is a smally till you actually picked it up. i found out there are these catfish-eel looking things that you dont want to touch cause they are poisonous. the have needles right behide their gill plates. i found that out the hard way, nothing a knife couldent dig out though [pirate] like i said ill get another camera and take some pics. people walking into this place toss bread and other food off the bridge and the fish go crazy! they actually follow you along the bridge to see if you are going to toss food to them, its pretty cool.

I bet being fully armed kept the water skiers away [Wink].

Is this an actual address we write on the package and it will get there or what. Does anyone want to combine the stuff into one package for shipping. What weight and type of line do you prefer and what about lures, hooks, etc. Thank you so much for your service and pass my thanks to all the others over there. You guys (and gals) are real heroes.
[signature]
yes that is the address you write. as far as stuff.... it doesent really matter, they will eat anything, so make it cheap. grubs, hooks (no jig heads) and spilt shot. as far as line, that doesent mater either. on a side note, when we rotate out of here we are giving all of this stuff to the morale, welfare, and recreation guys so the other soldiers and Marines will have an oppertunity to fish when they get here. again from the 4 of us here at the MNC-I C6 a HUGE heart felt thanks! it givs us that "we can almost feel like home" feeling!
