How can you find school fish from bank or pier.

A lot of it is being in the right place at the right time. I"ve seen lots of guys catching fish from shore in Lake Mead.
The stripe bass chase bait schools back into the coves...

On our lake here in Hawaii the peacock also chase shad, lots of time close enough to shore to catch.

Having a good reel, long rod, and line so you can make long casts will help.

[#000000][/#000000]
[#000000]If you could be a little more specific about body of water, type of fish, etc., it would be easier to narrow down some tips to give you.[/#000000]

If you can see any bait fish working on top. It's a good bet a school of big boys are underneath or close by.

[#008000]There are Brim, Crappie, Black Bass, Catfish and even Wipers (Hybrid Striped Bass). [/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]For the Brim, Crappie, LMB you should find some shoreline weed beds to fish. [/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]For the Catfish, fish right in the tailwaters - especially in spring and right about now. Cast out a ways and fish on bottom - if you can hit an eddie or current seam from the pier with your rod, you will have the best success. Use heavy sinkers, heavy line, and long rods. [/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]There are times when you can get into some Wipers from the shore - usually in spring before the shad minnows are swimming in the open water (or maybe even fall). [/#008000][#008000]Check with other fishermen that already know the local tactics and the specific trends of the Wipers in that water and they will steer you in the right direction, you can also check with local tackle shops for info on that.[/#008000]
