So I've been fishing in this small creek near my house in Marietta, Georgia....and there are many bluegill, redear sunfish, some pumpkinseed sunfish, and some green and redbreasted sunfish in the creek. There are also lots of bullfrog tadpoles, newts, crayfish, and minnows.

However, there are some bottomfeeders that I cannot identify. I caught several in a large net, and took some photos (Attached). The fish are shiny gold colored with red fins and a mouth towards the bottom, and they are about 5-6 inches long (although there were a lot of smaller ones, too). They seemed to feed only on the bottom, and resembled the rainbow shark in my aquarium.

Please help! This has been driving me nuts!

I'm going with the common shiner but the photos are a bit blurry. Google -( Shiners fish ID) and see if you can find an exact match. Good luck and keep up the curiosity, its what makes a fisherperson great.

[#588000]Your photo is a little blurry and only a top view. That kind of makes it hard to identify - especially when a lot of minnows look similar from that view point.

Here are a couple of guesses: Look at your fish closely (especially the mouth area) and see if it resembles either of these. Then come back and let us know.[/#588000]
