Hogan was very nice on Thursday of this week - sometimes breezy but also calm at times. I lost my first strike due to using a KrippleAnchovie rig I tied about three years ago, that first hit was incredible! After a short fight the leader broke. Rats.

But a while later I had another hit, and got that one to the boat. One fish in the box and one lost beats a skunk! The one I got to the boat was 24" and 4 1/2 lbs. That was about it for five hours of trying. The one I got in the box was dripping milt all over the boat. Either he was looking for love, or he really, really liked my boat!

Both fish hit at about 20 feet on rolling anchovies. Both were in the narrows just off the main lake.

I trolled from 0830 to 1330. The lake lice were beginning to arrive, so I let 'em have it. I didn't see a boil all day. I guess it's not active enough yet, but it's likely to get better now with the warmer weather.

The water is low but the old dam isn't showing yet. There are a total of six launching lanes open now, so there's plenty of access.

Hogan is a mysterious lake. Some days you might catch a half a dozen stripers (limit of 10 and no size restrictions), some days you can't buy a strike. I do believe the hottest days are best for stripers.
