I got out in my float tube for a bit of carp and bass chasing Wed. evening. I got a tip from Ben about where some shallow carp were biting. I saw some good ones but they were in the heavy weeds and it was hard to deliver the bait (corn) to them. I might have had a few carp bites that I missed. Got a bass and some sunfish on the corn, no carp.
Switched to a swimshad for some bass or pike, started off slow, but I found a pretty good school of largies on a flat with sparse weeds and pads that were willing to bite. I got about 6 and missed a few too, once it got dark the bite stopped. PICS here:http://mtbucket.blogspot.com/2008/06/after-work-report-6-4.html

[cool][#0000ff]Nice. Some folks would laugh at your lack of success with carp. Not me. I know they can be tough to fool sometimes...especially the bigguns. I think carp are some of the smartest fish in the water. They also fight pretty good if you manage to fool them.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]We have just the opposite problem in Utah. Many of our lakes have become overrun with carp and there are limited food resources. Consequently, carp often slurp up the baits we use for other species...mostly worms...and also regularly hit jigs, spinners, hardbaits and flies. Not as much problem to catch them sometimes as to keep them away when we are fishing for something else. Still, the biggest carp are difficult to catch. Most of those we catch are small to medium size.[/#0000ff]

yes, the carp in MN lakes are well fed and are very tricky to catch sometimes, especially sight fishing. the carp in the rivers are easier to get for sure. Getting them on flies is really hard up here, I have caught a couple, they sure pull hard on a little fly rod!
