Heres a link to an electric car website, they are quite expensive. Too bad big oil and government keeps these from mass production[frown]

Elecrics would be great for city commutes and work that is not too far away. Same thing with electric-gas and electric-hydrogen hybrids. They can't haul a boat and truck camper very far though, and they aint gonna fit all the equipment. Even these teslamotor electrics are not completely reliable.

Here is a link to a hydrogen powered engine, a V-10 that will be 99 percent CO2 emission free and will be able to go 500 miles between fuel ups. Of course it will be fitted onto a truck. Now here is the near-future solution I cheer and clap for. Oh, and by the way, it is all courtesy of Ford Motor Company. [Smile]

*Note: Scroll down to about the middle of webpage to see engine and truck.

I think the $109,000 price tag has more to do with keeping these cars from "Mass Production" than anything else.

But if you would like explain your conspiracy theory about big oil I wouldn't mind hearing it.

That website is for an expensive "sport car" model.

What I'm talking about is that certain oil companies have squashed the market because there was the EV1 that could go over 60 mph. And General Motors had to destroy every single one! Smashed them to bits! And they only leased them too. Who and what was behind this?

I believe it was big oil companies. Period.

But also a lack of consumer support.

The EV1 got better mileage than any gas guzzler on the market. In fact it got ยข60 per mile! I forgot how far it would go on a full battery charge.

I forgot how much the EV1 was.[shocked]

It was owned by celebrities such as Tom Hanks and Arnold Shwartznager(however you spell his last name).

End of story, and they were not over $100,000.

Anyways, big oil companies do not want any competition; there is 100 trillion dollars worth of oil to be drilled left in the Earths crust.

In regards to hydrogen, it is not as good as solution as electric cars. However I do agree with line_dangler that we will need heavy cargo trucks to use some sort of fuel, unless a battery charged truck can be engineered to carry heavy loads; you would be amazed at the technology these day.[cool]

Yes there are are problems with heavy trucks.

Sorry to offend those who work in the oil field but as I see it global warming is a reality!

Nobody here at BFT has to agree, but its a great idea to ban the use of gasoline motor vehicles.

My conspiracy? The Bilderburg Group. Is one special interest group that deal with oil.

Although these "special interest" groups have nothing to do with oil: The IRS, The Federal Reserve, various drug companies such as Ely Lily. These are extreme criminal institutions. Again nobody here at BFT has to agree with me.

In fact the Gulf War was commercial interest, not kidding!

Die for oil suckers! No joke!

Sorry but I can't go on and on about conspiracy you should look that up yourself. Although the internet is not a good place.

I don't oppose oil production totally because there are some fine products to make with oil, such as paints, plastics, ect, ect.

So don't get me wrong. But I think gas engines need to go, not and easy solution for everybody. Welcome to the physical universe.

Also big oil companies want one thing, money.

They are a threat to the Arctic Wildlife Refuge, and here in Utah they threaten the Book Cliffs.

These companies need to get over their obsession with money.

No offense wyobraz but I don't want to choke on gas fumes.

Also I respect your way of life to make money. So no harsh feelings.

There you go. But its the automobile industry that gives the oil companies the most $$$$

Just observe this list and you'll see why.

If we do use up all of the worlds oil reserves many of these products could be taken off line ( I would think perhaps so).

Gas engines by far use more iol so it would be a good idea to use electrics.

Oh by the way watch the documentary called "Who killed the electric car?" You can get it at Amazon.com.

'nuff said.

Catfish, man you really need to lay off of the Al Gore and Michael Moore documentaries, I'm getting worried about ya![Wink]

The whole problem with Electric or any other viable alternative energy is Capitalism, plain and simple. No one has been able to come up with a viable energy that is as cheap and reliable as products from the Fossil Fuel and Nuclear Industries.

The whole issue with the EV1 had absolutely nothing to due with the evil Oil companies, it was pure capitalism. GM could not make ANY MONEY with the EV1.

GM spent over 1 billion dollars to develop this car to meet California emission standards of zero emissions on new cars by 2003, and they had nothing but problems with it. The car was only suitable in "Warm" climates, and it was constantly being recalled because of battery issues. So in 2003 after 13 years of development GM decided that the EV1 was doomed when the expected breakthrough in battery technology had not taken place.

GM then decided it was cheaper to sue the state of California to change their emission standards than it was to continue and develope the EV1. Just to produce the EV1 cost GM $80,000 per car. GM also decided that once the leases for the EV1 expired they would destroy the cars because of the liabilty of fires caused by the battery while charging.

I do agree with you though Fossil Fuels need to go, but not because of Al Gore's fraud of Global Warming, but rather National Security.

Unlike the Liberal mentality though, I realize through examples such as the EV1, that alternative energy sources will not be readily and cheaply available for many years to come.

I will never support measures such as the Warner/Lieberman bill that was debated in the Senate this week, that keep us from using our own resources and limiting Carbon Emissions while forcing our country into a 3rd world power.

catfish-logic, go down further on the webpage and you will see what I am talking about. I think it is half way down.

I'm only in agreement with Al Gore about environmental issues.

Factually I tend to lean to Independent parties and even Libertarians.

I hate income taxes and these feeble-minded Democrats can never practice what they preach its like "we have global warming".

Whats their "solution"? Raising taxes and spreading socialism. That does not help the environment. And I like working for a living not earning food stamps!

Got it about the downfall of the EV1, actually they could have improved it. You made your point. I saw the documentary and it was pretty scary cause GM seems they had something up their sleeve. To me[crazy]

Whatever the stories are or "conspiracy" whatever. Sounds like all hogwash anyways. But I have my suspicions, thats just me.[cool]

But anyways you can look at the electric car websites, its obvious they could come out with a cost effective one.

You did well explaining the EV1 but it was still worth putting on the market. despite the fire hazards, they can always fix the problems with wiring and all that.

You know come to think of it, the only way were are gonna get electric vehicles is if the government actually outlaws gas guzzlers, you know? Or until we run out of gas.

Until then have fun paying $4 per gallon at the pump while oil companies reap profits.

It's been the coldest, wettest year since 1930. I don't think global "warming" is occuring. All signs, including the mild warming trend we experienced, Saddly indicate another ice age. Not in our life times. We won't see a change. Our kids, kid's kids, and so on's lifetimes, sure.

I don't blame the oil companies for not allowing electric cars. Blame the car makers. Like was mentioned above, Ford is taking great lengths to go against that trend.

Cutting gas production and use, well, it won't help. Stopping the Amazon and Congo jungles from being demolished? Yup. Ding ding ding. There's the problem. We didn't have smog, any kind of a warming trend, or the thinning of the ozone until what, the 1950's? Blame cutting the rain forests down for cattle, which produce more gasses than our cars, the lack of vegitative recrutement in the jungles, and nuclear weapons. Don't blame using fossil fuels.

BTW, it takes more fuel to generate electricity than to power a car. This message I just wrote took around the equivilent of 5 gallons of gas to write and send via internet. Enough said.

Bob Barr for President!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ONLY candidate that has sense enough to get us off of foreign oil dependancy by drilling our own oil, while agressivly pursuing alternative energy sources! Oh ya, he is a TRUE Conservative also. [cool]

Mc Lennon you pretty much hit the nail on the head with the rain forest demolition.

One thing the Global Warming Cult never mentions is that water vapor makes up about 70% of the "Green House" gasses in the Troposphere, while CO2 only makes up 6%. Agriculture is the biggest contributor to "Green House" gasses there is for two reasons. The first being the increased evaporation from rain forest removal and increased irrigation practices, and the second being the increased methane output due to livestock farts [shocked].

But I don't even blame "Green House" gasses for Climate change, I blame the sun. The increase and decrease in strength of the Sun's Magnetosphere and the Solar Storms that it allows has a dramatic effect on the Earth's climate. We are presently in a slow cycle that started in 2007, and in less than a year the average temperature on the planet has completely wiped out all of the temperature increase the earth has seen in the last hundred years.

The same Global Warming fanatics of today were the same Global Cooling fanatics of the '70s when they all feared an Ice Age even though CO2 was at higher levels than it is today. Back then they wanted to melt the Polar Ice Caps to help warm the Earth.

A few interesting reads for those that are interested.

The world's dependence on fossil fuels goes way beyond automobiles. Most of the electricity produced in the world is done so by burning fossil fuels in power plants. Also, do some research and see who owns most of the alternative technology (solar, wind, etc.) I think you'll find that the "evil" oil companies own much of the alternatives. They are also paying for the research and development into these technologies.

Ya, most of the power in our country is generated by burning coal. At least we produce coal locally though, instead of importing it from hostile foreign countries.

Personally, I think if we want to reduce pollution, we should build more nuclear reactor power plants to replace the coal fired ones.

Catfish-Illogic,

You should sell your "gas burner" and ride a bike
