Full Version: Using 2 Depth Finders at the same time

When I go fishing in my boat with my buddy, I would like to have 2 depth finders running at the same time. One at the front and one at the back. And the transducer(s) mounted at the back of the boat. This way everyone know what depth we are fishing at without having to have a trolling motor in the water.

Does anyone make a depth finder that could replicate the information to a 2nd depth finder?

Or are there depths finders that won't interfere with other units. So no matter what depth you are fishing at both units shows the proper depth.

Presently, I have Lowrance unit with 192 frequency and my Eagle has a 200 frequency but they still interfere with each other.
[#008000]Simply put, YES - it can be done.[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]But First though, I will need to know a little more about your set up.[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]1. What kind of boat ? Length ? Beam ?[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]2. Which models of Lowrance and Eagle do you have now ?[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]3. How are the sonars configured currently ? i.e. - Where on the boat ? How are they connected to the power in the boat ?[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]4. What kind of environment are you fishing in most of the time ? Deep water, shallow water, lakes, rivers ?[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]Let me know some of the details and maybe I can give you some possible options. The more I know, the more I have to work with.[/#008000]

[#008000]1. What kind of boat ? [/#008000][#000000]Crestliner Fish Hawk (aluminum) boat[/#000000]
[#008000]Length ? [#000000]17.5' [/#000000]Beam ?[/#008000] Which beam? Max Transom Beam is 91".
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]2. Which models of Lowrance and Eagle do you have now ?[/#008000] Lowrance x85 and Eagle Fishmark 320
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]3. How are the sonars configured currently ? i.e. - Where on the boat ? [#000000]Fishmark at the front, X85 at the side console. [/#000000]How are they connected to the power in the boat ?[/#008000] Both are connected to the Starting battery.
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]4. What kind of environment are you fishing in most of the time ? Deep water, shallow water, lakes, rivers ?[/#008000] Mainly walleye fishing from 10-50 feet.

Both transducer mounted at the back and approx. 2 feet apart.

[#008000]OK, Here are a couple of options.[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]Option 1:[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]Using your existing sonars. [/#008000]
[#008000]1. Both of those units have versions that are capable of dual frequency - Eagle 50/200, Lowrance 50/192. I don't know if you have them or not. You may have to contact those companies to get the appropriate dual frequency transducer - they may still sell them.[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]2. If one of them is dual frequency, you can set one on 50 and the other on 192 or 200 as the case may be. At 50, you will get a little less detail, but it will still be workable.[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]3. If you don't have dual frequency fish finders; Both of your units have ASP(noise rejection) and Sensitivity settings. Adjust the ASP to HIGH on BOTH. Adjust the sensitivity as low as possible on BOTH. That should eliminate most of the interference. You may have to spend a little time experimenting to find the exact adjustments for best performance.[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]4. Switches: [/#008000]
[#008000]A. Lowrance makes a switch so that you can use 2 transducers on one fish finder.[/#008000]
[#000080]Transducer switch LINK[/#000080]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]B. They also make a switch that you can use 2 fish finders on one transducer. [/#008000]
[#000080]Fish Finder switch LINK[/#000080]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]BUT, as far as I know, with the above switches, you can only use one transducer or fish finder at a time. Contact Lowrance for details.[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]Option 2;[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]New fish finder options.[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]1. Keep one of your current fish finders (choose the best one that you like the most).[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]2. Lowrance/Eagle make several 50/200 dual frequency fish finders as does Humminbird (83/200). See above Option #1 comment 2 on how to use them simultaneously.[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]3. Vexilar makes the below fish finder that has completely different frequencies that will not interfer with any of the above fish finders as well as the ones you currently own. It is called the Edge. [/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#000080]Vexilar LINK[/#000080]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]4. If you have a Vexilar or Marcum Flasher, you can use that on your boat as well and the interference rejection feature will remove the interference between the flasher and your fish finder as well.[/#008000]
[#008000][/#008000]
[#008000]Hope that made sense. Feel free to ask any questions on the above.[/#008000]

Fishhound,

Thanks for all the options, I have talked with Lowrance Customer Service and they never mentioned the dual frequency transducers.

They did mention the switch box and you are right it only allows you to use 1 depth finder at a time.

But I could get 2 new depth finders and use an Ethernet cable that would replicate the info but that is going to cost over$1000 by the tiime I get done.

I like Option 2, I will have to check that out. It is funny though, I did talk with Vexilar as well and one guy said I should get the AlumaDucer and then another call later a different guy said the AlumaDucer won't work because it would be using the frequency from my depth finder. But neither one talked about the Edge depth finders.

Thanks for your help!
